I'm betting all the good folks on R5G are smarter than google. Does anyone know of a good product/method for preventing yellowed or cloudy headlight lenses? Google brings up a bunch of lens restore hacks but not much in the way of prevention.

Its really UV that causes the lenses to get cloudy - that being said, a good UV protectant (or a good ceramic coating) should keep them clear.

A regular application of wax or sealant to your headlight lenses and paint goes a long way to prevent the issue.

Check out Project Farm on YouTube. He tests several brands of headlight restore. His conclusion is that Sylvania is best, with 3M in second.

is this not a place where 303 is useful? I can't believe nobody else *ahem* has mentioned it already?
Did someone say 303?

You all should know by now it's the cure all for just about all your detailing projects. lol The Graphene Nano spray is great for UV protection on all the exterior surfaces. If you coat them once a year you shouldn't have any hazing issues. Heck I'm still on my original windshield wipers and they still work great. You guessed it, I coat them too! ?

Sylvania is good stuff. They offered two kits when I was shopping for these things (2017). (See pics attached). I bought the $10 kit because I already had the super fine sandpaper. The $20 kit brings gloves and sandpaper, which is not worth the extra money to me. The special blue applicator towel appear to be the Scott blue shop towels, but trimmed to smaller size.

I used the kit to do several sets of headlamps and there is still plenty left. The "activator" smells like ammonia, and it is almost used up, but I have a lot of the coating left. I did my old pickup and the headlights were still good 4 years later. Just starting to show a little haze again when I got rid of the truck.

in Texas it is next to impossible to prevent the yellowing unless the trucks never outside. my 4g ranger has the lenses clouded and faded too. ive polished them up about 3 times and it helps but its not a cure. each time ive done it the results were less satisfactory. eventually new plastic will be on order and im gonna hit them with a heavy uv blocker before installing . you can even use simple turtle wax brand polish like you would on paint. basically all the fancy brand headlight fixers are a rubbing / polish compound.

Crest whitening toothpaste and 3K grit sand paper will also work. Gets 'em absolutely gleaming

I never heard of that it's good to know. But my neighbors already think I'm a little crazy so this could really validate it. Can you imagine what they'll think when they see me out there with a toothbrush brushing my headlights? lol

lol. They just might. Mine already know I'm nuts. My neighbor especially when he saw me out with a scotch bright pad, a tube of toothpaste and a can of Bon-Ami cleanser scrubbing the glass on the truck. Had to walk over to see what the hell I was doing. That combo does wonders for removing hard water spots on glass. Just got to make sure to rinse it REALLY well and not to scrub the paint with it.
