Check The Torque On Rear Leaf Spring U Bolts!

I checked the torque on my truck and discovered an odd thing. The two bolts on the front side of the axel were tight to the point that I don’t know what touque they were set to, for sure it is over 98 ft ibs. The other two, the back/rear of the axel around started 70ish. Brought those up to 98 and went out for a drive. Came back and retested. I found that the two nuts on the front side of the axel were still tighter than 98. The two on the rear side had loosened and needed to be further tightened. They needed a surprising amount of additional tightening.

Does this indicate a specific problem? Should I drive for several days and retest again or just let it be? Is it a problem if the nuts on the front side of the axel are set different to those on the back side of the axel ?

Not being a smart as here, but…

It might just as likely indicate an issue with the torquer than the Torquee.

But interesting results, none the less.

As a torquee, one should twerk while you torque. It will work better.

I gotta say - the more I scour these forums, the more I am very concerned at Ford's QC.

I tightened mine today at 10,000mi and it seems to have cleared up a clunk I had at start/stop.

Did anyone who checked ubolt nut torque notice if the forward ubolt nuts were to spec (98ft/lbs) and the trailing nuts were loose (74 Ft/lbs) as happened in my case?

Saw this thread and decided to check my 19. Eight nuts one just above 54 and the rest just below 74 foot pounds. After torquing to spec it did feel a little less soft under power. Or just my imagination.

ok so next weekend im going in with the t wrench in hand lol. i figure just make sure they all click at 94 and call it done. this forum is giving me so many more things to check and wonder about...

Is the consensus to re-toraue the factory nuts or seek out the 'quality aftermarket' u-bolt/nuts?

Would there be some 'upgrade' version?

I have been loading and towing a bit lately on top of mixed driving and would want to be proactive in prevention.
