So last week I lost my keyfob. After looking everywhere, I decided that my wife's friend's kid stole it and probably ate it or sold it on the black market or something. So I ordered a replacement from an online website for $48. I assumed I would have to pay the dealer to program it. Well the fob arrived a day after I miraculously found the original fob in the garage.
I was going to return it, but discovered that you can program a fob yourself, provided you have the two original keys.
This works for the Lariat, not sure about other trims:

I figure there is a greater than 50% chance that I will lose one of the keys in the future, and I think paying the $48 now is more than a 50% savings down the line if I ever have to pay a dealer or locksmith to program. Anyways, if you are prone to losing keys or if your wife ever invites child thieves to your house, you might want to pull the trigger on a cheap replacement now.
