Hello all,

As I was under my truck today, I noticed my Borla exhaust has carbon fouling near one of the tightening clamp points? Sorry if I am not using the right terminology. Here is a picture. Is this normal? If not, what is the issue and a possible solution?

Warm regards,
Brandon

Essentially it means there is a leak there, from my experience that just looks like the condensation from inside the exhaust is dripping out there. The condensation does a good job of absorbing/catching the soot, then you get black water leaking out of the exhaust. You can try tightening the clamp or loosen/wiggle/re-tighten to try to form a better seal.

Thank you very much. Will try to form a better seal. Appreciate the insight.

Direct injection engines do form carbon on the tip inside edge of the tailpipe.
This looks like a leak (but it would have been at the end if there wasn't a leak)

Makes sense, this same type of soot looks like usually at end of exhaust but this is definite indication of a leak like you and others mentioned. Appreciate the help.
