Anyone have any issues using a car wash with the roof antenna?
I have a more modern brushless but multiple pad car wash.
I also wonder why the fin doesn't work as well as other fin type antennas on many other vehicles.

Im not sure either, but I have ran mine through several "touch-less"(no brushes, pads, etc.) ones with no issues.

I assumed they meant the full beater brush, paint stripping ones, where the large rotating brush skims right over the roof, but we dont have many of those around here any more.

What do you mean "the fin doesn't work as well"?

I've already brought mine through a brush-type car wash and it was fine.

I meant why the need for an antenna and fin when the fin alone has worked fine on my past vehicles with XM/radio.

I took a chance this morning and no problem.
Just finished detailing the exterior. Now on to the interior.
Tint Friday and Line-X maybe next week.

went with a Stubby antenna on my Pony a couple of years back and I'm quite happy with it. I'll likely get a Stubby when/if my Ranger ever arrives.

No problem with the stock antenna. The stubby ones look much better but I've read a lot of negative things about reception.

I'm a service advisor at a Ford dealer and I recommend removing the antenna when going through car washes with brushes. I have seen many of these little antennas ripped off, and sometimes they will even damage the base if the brushes grab on to the antenna.
Thanks for the advice. Does removing the antenna leave any openings through which water, soap, etc. could enter the system?

You are correct the FIN works just fine for SIRIUS/XM and the Antenna is for AM/FM reception, they are two different systems.

No problem with the stock antenna. The stubby ones look much better but I've read a lot of negative things about reception.
Several of us have changed to a 4" or 2" stubby antenna and had no issues.
I don't listen to AM/FM much so if there was any loss in reception on the stubby then I'm not out much.

I step up on the rear cab sil and remove. One of the full service washes I use the attendant takes it off and installs after drying.
