Hi all,
I've been running the LMS 91-93 performance tune for the past 33k miles but have since added AFE charge pipes, an S&B CAI, and soon a SPD 3" downpipe. I'm happy with all of it, but looking for a bit more. LMS says their tune will automatically account for those things, but I'm not sure that's the full story. They also tell me that their (email) tune is a true "custom" tune, but many would disagree with that. And I understand that the canned tunes leave some power on the table too, to be safe.
So, I'm wondering what a true custom/dyno tune might get me. Forget about the tune cost for a minute, are there any real performance gains to be seen?

Since I'm not interested in speculation (I've already read enough forums on that)... has anyone ever gone from a canned tune to a true custom (dyno) tune and can show a difference via dyno charts?

I have always been custom tuned but I can tell you that any well written tune will compensate for most bolt on parts. The benefit to a custom tune is obviously to dial in the combination.
I have been on and off the dyno and street driven with lots of different parts changes, most of the time I didn’t pick up much power after tuning for the part as opposed to before.

The only real advantage to have your vehicle tuned on a dyno verse a custom email tune is the dyno tuning will be one and done verse having to data log, send it to the tuner, get a revised tune and repeat until the tuner/you are happy.

If you have a performance shop with a dyno AND they are experienced with 4cyl Ford Ecoboost engines by all means get the dyno tune. Otherwise I would go with an outfit like Unleashed that has been providing custom email tunes to thousands of Ecoboost customers.

I had my 15 Ecoboost Mustang tuned by Unleashed. The base tune he sent was no different than the canned tunes I had tried from SCT and Steeda but after a couple of rounds of data logging it was noticeably stronger on the top end. For my Ranger I was not really looking for a lot more power but I wanted to revise the transmission calibration in drive so I would not need to be locking out gears or driving in tow/sport mode. So I ordered an 87 octane performance tune with custom transmission programming. Took three revisions but he nailed the tranny tune and 20k miles latter I couldn't be any happier.
