The question now... does Ford give the Ranger the 7 speed or the 2.7 Eco V6 on the next refresh?

manual I don't know. the bigger engine was always going to happen on the next gen because people will pay stupid money for unnecessary power.

One thing that is not yet clear to me is the issue of the take-off tops and doors. Are these optional, or do all of them have it? (In addition to the 2.7, I would want a fixed hard-top and stay-on doors in case I decide to move over. I hate moon roofs, sun roofs, detachable roofs and doors, etc.; fortunately, Ford did not force that stuff on Ranger owners at the higher trim levels.)

The 2 door comes standard with the removable hard top, actually removable panels which I think is a big improvement (lighter, easier to store, easier to replace a single panel in case of damage, etc.)

The 4 door comes standard with a soft top.

I've seen no detail on the removal of top or doors, but from the images it looks much more secure than the Jeep with it's exposed door hardware.

I would pay the extra just for the duel port injection on the 2.7 if the next gen does not have DPI in the 2.3

Thanks, man, I am probably going to wait until the next generation Rangers come out before making any decisions. If both sides, Ranger and Bronco, eventually offer a 2.7, I will stick with Rangers!

I’d pay even more stupid amounts of money for the 2.7 or even 3.0 in a raptor if it makes over 400hp factory.

The boosted 2.7's power is certainly "unnecessary," but if we want it anyway, just for fun, then the higher price is paid in "smart money!" In other words, it all depends on what you like.

I really love my Ranger and it's just too useful. I was planning on making it a play truck, even through it's my daily, but maybe I'll just keep it forever and eventually get the bronco for fun. The original bronco is my favorite truck all time (even though I've had more scout IIs).

Sure, the ideal solution would be to keep the Ranger and add a Bronco, but my wife, and my garage, will likely disagree....

I'd miss the truck aspect of the Ranger. If I was younger, I'd definitely think long and hard about the Bronco, but I want the towing capacity the Ranger provides.

Oh, I'm in total fantasy mode. I cook for a living and have a dog rescue. It's a freaking miracle I'm scrapping together my Ranger payments haha

I'd miss the truck aspect of the Ranger. If I was younger, I'd definitely think long and hard about the Bronco, but I want the towing capacity the Ranger provides.

I hear you, I would miss the bed, for all the convenience and fun it provides!

I don't see Jeep worrying too much about this one to be honest. This is a Toyota FJ rebranded with some very nice off road features at the same price as a Wrangler. The FJ was never the success it was hoped to be and a lot had to do with the design.

The biggest reason Jeep has an edge still is aftermarket parts. It will be a few years before Ford can be competitive in that market.

This one is a pass for me. I like it with the doors and roof off and I love the off road features but a Rubicon will be the next purchase for this house and then the Raptor Ranger when it releases.

Notice they went straight to the 392 Scat Pack Hemi instead of the 5.7 Hemi.

Probably because they figured that with just the 5.7 Hemi, a Bronco with the 2.7 EB would still walk it.

And just wait for the markup FCA will charge for that V8.

This is GREAT for Ranger owners...

Same engine, rear axle (same wheel bolt pattern?!), similar frame, similar (if not the same) front suspension. The aftermarket and OE support for the Ranger is about to expand exponentially.

I'm pretty excited for the future of our trucks.
