Does anybody know of a way to fix this other than a tragically expensive new remote and key and programming? Can the metal key part be replaced and re-use the transmitter? Thanks

Try Ace Hardware. Some of them cut newer keys and program fobs.

Go to Ebay and buy a new remote FOB for around 30.00 USD. They'll charge 10.00 for cutting the key just send them a good photo of yours.
If you have two FOBs including the broken one you can program the new one.
Use the broken key maybe with a small vise grip to turn ignition switch during programming.

I did this a few months back.

You should be able to get a key blank cut at Ace - others on here have done that. Then, reinstall it. There is a small pin that holds things together, shown in this pic…

I’m not sure how it is installed but I’m sure there’s a YT video.

I've been trying to get ACE to cut me a spare key for nearly a year.

I just want a dumb key, no transponder, to open the door. Better yet, just the blade from the transponder would be perfect.

Any ideas about where to get just the blade?

Doesn't look like his key is broken. Just the pivoting socket it goes into, part of the fob. Should be able to buy a new fob of ebay/Amazon and put his key into it and program the new fob using his old one. Not sure if you need two existing fobs to program a third.

*Edit: removed my msg in reply to @Awg9Tech as it linked to a transponder key

As @silverflash posted here he got "dummy/sunny" keys cut at his locksmith for cheap.

Thanks for all the feedback. Yes I think my blade is intact. I am going to try to use a key fob case from Amazon as an organ donor and swap the pivot to my existing case. I'll let y'all know what happens.

$16 on Amazon for new case with blade. Nuthin’ to swapping it. I was planning to just use the pivot, but the new case was lots prettier than old beat up one. Used vice and little bitty torx bit to press the pin out and in. Took a trial and error to get preload right on the spring.
thanks for the help!
while we’re here - does the blade have a part in anti theft or is that all in the fob?

I don’t know personally, but a quick Google search shows several options.

Your dealer didn't give you a spare fob when you bought it? I thought it was standard practice by the dealership.
