Hello everyone, this is my first time posting to the forum so I hope I’m doing it right, but anyway. My problem is as I was finishing installing my Eibach leveling kit, and BDS upper control arms I broke the 8mm bolt that mounts the UCA “shield” (as BDS refers to it in their instructions) on the passenger side. It broke off to wear I’d have to try extracting it with one of those funky drill bits, but it’s in awful spot to try that. My question is, how important is that shield ? Is it it a big deal to go without it? Or should I try extracting it? It doesn’t seem like it’d be that important, considering there isn’t a “shield” on the driver side.
Thank you for any help!!

Sorry, here’s some pictures. This is the “shield” it’s only on the passenger size, you can see the broken bolt.
PS: it’s a 2019 FX4

I think he's referring to this shield. (UCA) Upper Control Arm, and that shield protects the bushing.

But with that said, my 22 Lariat non-FX-4, does not have that shield, installed.

From The Manual:
  1. NOTE: RH side only.
Remove the upper arm shield nut and shield.

Yes that would be the one! Did you simply take yours off ? Or does the 2022 Ranger not come with a “shield” from the factory ?

I don't recall having to remove mine when I installed my bds UCA, I was watching my mechanic install them but I may have missed it.

I just looked at it on my 2019 and it’s either to protect the bushing from heat from the turbo or to protect the turbo and engine from foreign objects coming up through the wheel well as it’s behind the control arm. I wouldn’t consider it a critical component but if it worries you then I’d find a way to reattach it

not installed from factory, so it has been deleted or it is only on FX-4 and possibly Tremor.

we’ll that’s reassuring that it’s not a critical part if Ford determined it’s not necessary after a few years. im gonna try and use some adhesive and zip tie in place and see how that holds up, thanks again guys!

if your good with a grinder you could smooth out the broken bolt and then use a good epoxy glue like jb weld and stick it on. i think thats a 2 function item, heat shield and debris shield.

A 90 degree drill might get in there. If it has reverse use a left handed drill bit, it might come out. Thing to watch with extractors is they break off too so if you try it take it easy with it.

I have gotten stubs like that out by soaking with bluecreeper a couple times and then using a prick punch with a small hammer and tapping as far off center as you can to make it turn in the loosening direction. Is there anything sticking out the backside of the mount that vise grips could grab on?
