Has anyone seen radial marks on brake rotors before? I have one area on my driver's rear rotor that has these. I've never seen them before. Any ideas what may have caused them and should I have them turned down or replaced? The brake pads still have plenty of material on them.

Are you getting any vibration/chatter from that rotor under braking?

No vibration or chatter. I have been getting some squeaking from the rear under light braking. I wasn't sure which side so I was checking the brake pads this morning.

Thats a weird pattern...I'd swing by a shop or dealership and get them to take a look at it. Almost makes me think manufacturing defect.

Looks a little bit like welding of the pads to rotors from hard braking and then sitting there with your foot on the brake with the rotors very hot. Who knows though.

That's really weird. I can't think of any normal operational process that could result in radial scratches like those. Looks like a manufacturing defect. They aren't cracks. You can see that there are raised edges due to material displacement. They are scratches / scribed markings. Aside from increased pad wear due to the increased abrasion, the only hazard would be potentially forming cracks due to stress concentration, but that's a long shot. If it were mine, I'd get the people that sold me the rotor to replace it under warranty.

It is the factory rotor. Unfortunately I’m well past the warranty.

I just bought my truck, so I am unfamiliar with how the eBrake works on the late model rangers (whether it is pad and rotor or an internal drum inside the hub), but if it is a rotor and pad eBrake, it could just be build up from the pad clamp when the ebrake is engaged and squeezes dust and crud out as it clamps. If it is an internal eBrake shoe design, then that wouldn't be it.

You could take a little fine emory paper and if it sands off fairly easily I wouldn't worry about it. If it is actually rotor material, it won't sand off easily. I doubt that would cause the squeaks, but it doesn't cost much to have them lightly turned, if it bugs you.

Well, the good news is, it's not a huge deal, and the rotor is likely not too expensive to replace. But it is likely that someone with a brake lathe, (if there are any of those left in this day and age) could clean it up with a light pass or two, and you don't even need to replace it.

I would have it turned. I have never seen that kind of pattern before. Maybe something was lodged in there that caused this... Idk
