Please show me an Australian air box that use a silicone around the air filter just to keep it sealedThey have our airbox?
There is nothing wrong with this airbox for water crossing. Sealing the factory intake is also an easy task for anyone who can install a snorkel, and anyone who can improvise their own as you did.Well I said sealing up the factory intake hole should be pretty easy. You can also plug the drain hole, but you are ultimately relying on the seal of the filter to ensure water tightness of the box itself. Or you have to RTV the filter edges every time. It isn't ideal.
Most of the people who buy this will never use it (at least correctly) for water crossings. Of the people who do use it correctly, they will probably not continue to use the factory airbox. That's sorta how this works, and Mishimoto clearly had this in mind with their method of attachment (unlike ARB, which is one of the reasons I didn't go with ARB).

I have the Mishimoto CAI (which uses a ?10" grommet as a seal) in the garage, and the factory box is a much better design for snorkel and sealing. Also gonna disagree that's sorta how it works, that people change their airbox when buying a snorkel made for a factory airbox. IME people change their airboxes for CAI benfits, few add a snorkel, and fewer do it because they are going to add a snorkel.
that was my same question.@Mishimoto how long is the sale for?
Also, in your install video, why isn't the factory ram intake removed and plugged? Doesn't that defeat the purpose of the high intake?
From the look of your photos you should be ok, but if you want to double check, I popped out to our truck and took some measurements for you:@Mishimoto
Damn, I've got it sitting in my cart ready to buy, but I am a little concerned about clearance with my rack...
If you can spare a moment can I get some sort of measurement on the snorkel distance from the roof line? (towards the windshield). I just can't tell from the photos if the end plates on my rack will clear it.
Currently, we're aiming for an early January launch date, so you'll still have some time after the holidays if that ends up working out better for you!Any possibility we could get an idea on how long the pre-sale will run? Trying to weigh if this should be a pre/post Christmas purchase.
Great question!Glad that its finally released!! Just one question though.... What is done about the factory intake snorkel?
We wanted to make sure that your airbox seal was best suited for your truck, and who knows your trucks/rigs better than you guys! With that, we do have two suggestions to block off your airbox no matter which kit you're running.
First - Weathing stripping the factory inlet. We suggest a 1" expanding foam weatherstrip with a crush depth of 1/4" to avoid a lop-sided hood when installed. This method will require less fabrication but is much simpler to install. You can fix the stripping to the hood directly or mount the weatherstrip on the upper radiator support:

The second option is to use sheet steel as a plug and seal the box using a polyurethane adhesive that's suitable for your environment, ideally -25-185°F.
Thanks guys, let me know if you have any other questions!

Yeah.... Not going to lie.... I feel those are both horrible options. With that said I would rather go to ARB and cut a hole in my fender because they have a plug included. From the look of your photos you should be ok, but if you want to double check, I popped out to our truck and took some measurements for you:

As well as an overhead view for a little better perspective. The head of the snorkel is about 3.5" offset from the black roof trim:

Post #140 has a link to the site, which has the install video. ~6 minutes shows the air-box cutting.Does anyone have links or pics of the snorkel installation? I don’t think an under hood shot was ever shared with us? Does the airbox need to be cut to attach the snorkels charge pipe? The factory scoop not being addressed in the “kit” is upsetting but hey it’s 2021 and we’re forced to accept lesser standards and compromises in all outlets of life. It shouldn’t be hard to fab something up to seal it in a professional manner. Waiting to hear back @Mishimoto
Thank you for that video, didn’t notice it posted with the photos, ehhh doesn’t look too bad honestly, funny how the OE, scoop was put back on at the end, seems counterintuitive if you’re trying to grab air from a higher “cleaner/less wet” point. @Mishimoto will you guys include a block off plate for the factory scoop point? Growing pains of us forums a$&@ts and R&Ding a new product! LolPost #140 has a link to the site, which has the install video. ~6 minutes shows the air-box cutting.
