Hey Crew, I have been looking at this harness to add blind spot cameras to the tremor, but it states (1) Models equipped with NAV can only use front and rear camera inputs. Thier support was not much help, does anyone know what is different in the APIM with Nav that would not work with the blind spot cameras? I know the APIM for NAV has GPS but I just want to understand why it will not work with my NAV. There are other harnesses that are much more expensive that claim will work (Naviks and Camera Source have them, Rosta no longer available) but this is $200.

Thx!
LB

  • (4) Camera inputs (1)
  • Reverse signal trigger generated via CAN bus communication of the vehicle
  • Turn signal trigger generated via CAN bus communication of the vehicle
  • (4) Programmable camera control wires
  • Micro-B USB updatable

Looks like you need an additional module to add those cameras. However it wasn’t an option on the truck how do you plan to add them?

I believe (I THINK) that the statement:

(1) Models equipped with NAV can only use front and rear camera inputs

Is a VERY POORLY worded statement - meaning (Just because you have (NAV/GPS) the Sync (APIM) will not display a (Birdseye) Aerial view of the truck via NAV/GPS data and can only display the (Installed Camera Views)
Even though Birdseye or 360 Views actually come from the cameras themselves. and is a stitched together (streamed view) of the combined camera angles.
So basically is makes no sense at all if that is what they mean, so this is the only thing I can deduce that they are referencing and another possible reason for the statement, you have to also factor in - this module is for a wide range of Ford models and other models may have a limitation regarding NAV Enabled systems.
Basically - it makes no sense and lacks details, but as far as the (Turn Signal) input see below

Be it Front -Rear or Side Views, 3 total extra cams plus the factory integrated rear cam.
So I am assuming you want to add a camera to the front bumper (Front View) and 2 rear facing cams on the mirrors (Rearward) activated view when the Turn Signal is on.

Camera Intro.jpeg

I cannot find anything other than different part numbers for the APIM (Nav / Non-Nav)
Which from what I can tell the only difference is the software and storage size of the units.
and of course (As-Built) data programming of the APIM.

I did question (If the APIM) would allow additional camera view inputs, but with others integrating additional camera (in previous posts) then I assume it can be done but does require an additional module to interface with the Sync (APIM) such as the Rostra and Axxess modules

Specific to the Input:
Both the Nav & Non Nav (APIM) sees a data transmission (signal) for Turn Signal Switch status
on the HS-Can 3 data bus, this is where the (Axxess) module will pick up the signal from the SCCM that either the Left or Right Turn signal is (On)
So this information is factored into my assumption that the statement is poorly worded and may be misleading - for one to think that the NAV (Equipped) system cannot display the (Turn Signal) activated camera on - For the Ranger both types of APIMs see that information.
I do not see any reason for it not being able to display it as long as the (Extra) module transfers the video feed (output) to the display, there is nothing that I see that is different between the 2 APIM's that would prevent it.

The question is how well does this aftermarket module work as compared to the others, such as the Rostra unit that was discontinued.

Hope This information - Helps

Thx @airline tech that helps alot. The module has to be programmed to the camera input selection trigger source. I was mainly interested in the front when rolling forward and blind spots when blinkers are on, I did not even think about the 360 Birseye view. I will have to revist the vendors.

I know Bludroc and a few others have have used something similar in the past.

Thx for your input! much appreciated.

Naviks says this unti will work $450 but does not mention birds eye view

Camera Source says this unti will work $550 but does not mention birds eye view either
