Not sure if this goes here but if admin needs to move it I understand. Ok, here's my dilemma: I bought a Black Horse Brush Guard part # 17FP10MA for my 2019 Ranger XL. It came with very poor instructions. The instructions have a parts list, a few photos and not much else. If anyone thinks they can help I would greatly appreciate it. I have contacted the seller on Ebay but no answer as of yet.

Instructions should include which bolts may have to be removed, which bolts, nuts, and washer in the kit go where, where to cut and/or trim pieces, and torque values. I could probably mess with this for a day or so but I really would like proper instructions as I have to do this outside here in Central Texas and this time of year it rains a lot. Thank you for reading.

Hi Guy

You are so correct to ask for installation details. So much aftermarket is similar. One of the reasons is that those that design and fabricate are too close to the product they made and are selling, that they miss the fact that folks are not like them and intuitively know how to do an install. Believe me that Ford has similar problems, and out of that we developed what we called fresh eyes review. These folks were not familiar with the product and the questions they had were eye opening. I believe you face this problem...Hope you can get it handled by the supplier.

Okay a bit of another back story. We had a problem with wheels on 4x4 Rangers and Explorers separating from the vehicle. So the intermin fix was to Torque the front wheels to 130 ft lbs...since the automatic wheel nut tightening machines could not be adjusted to this torque even though the spec was 90 to 130 ft lb.... So we had to pay for two poor soles to stand there at the final line with click torque wrenches to tighten every 4x4 at the Explorer plant and the two Ranger Plants. At line speed these poor torque wrenches were fatigues and sore wrists abounded. So it became a serious ergonomics issue. Many more folks were required to handle these tasks. Well the design folks thought "handled!" Problem solved...screw the line workers. So I got an Explorer 4x4 and had the wheels torques to 130 ft lbs. I then got about a half dozen secretaries to come out to the parking lot. I hand them the lug wrench and taught them how to change the wheel/tire per the owners manual.....Not one of them had the strength to break the lug nuts loose, except for one very smart lady that installed the lug wrench on the lugnut and then proceeded to stand on the lug wrench handle and bounce up and down....she was successful in breaking the lug nuts loose. If I could have, I would have repeated with men my current age of 71 and likely would have had the same results. but there no men at this age as they retired or died....

So I took this experiment to the powers that be and convinced them that this solution was only temporary and the long term solution to the problem need to be done with a design of experiments approach in the laboratory. I detailed this in another post on wheel separation somewhere else on the forums so will not repeat here..... anyway FYI on aftermarket parts.

Thank you for the reply. I emailed the manufacturer and hopefully I will get a reply. Do you happen to know what the torque specs are for the bolts that hold on the tow hooks? Those are also mounting points for the guard.

Hi Guy,

I will get back with you later...a bit too much on my plate in a few minutes, but will pull up the shop manual and see what the torque is...

Best,
Phil

Thank you. I probably won't get started on it until Monday since it will be raining off and on until then.

Got it installed after the seller contacted the manufacturer with more complete directions.
