Anyone put bigger alternator in our trucks or did any research on the idea? Please share.

Ummmmm........ How big are you trying to go?! If memory serves me right the Ranger comes equipped with a 170-180 Amp Alternator from the Factory. No need to go bigger then that. If you do, then you have problems

Old thread from a few years ago, and via google...supposedly 2 different alts...one for base models at around 160-170 and one for Tremors and Lariats, up to 190 amps due to more electronics and larger batteries.
Supposedly there is a sticker or plate on the alt that has the info/rated output.

The only specs I can find and the manuals on give the Specs for the base alternator:
This covers all trims (except Tremor)

PN: KB3Z-10346-B
105 Amps & Idle (Min) - 170 Amps Max @ 2,250 RPMs

However, if you view Ebay pics of alternators, they have a label with 150 stamped on it.
So, 150 Amps is the nominal range with a Max Output of 170 Amps

Tremor: PN: HB3Z-10346-A (W-Aux Switches) - cannot find specs for this but I suspect it is around 225 -amp range -using the (Alternator) fuse as a reference guideline.
225 Amp Fuse vs 300 Amp Fuse for the Tremor

Basing an a 55-Amp cushion for the standard alternator and the fuse (225-Amp) @ 170 Max Output.
So, if following the same cushion, the Tremor should be a 225 Amp alternator with 245 Amp Max Output (with a 300 Amp) fuse.

They're hard to come by, but Broncos have a 230amp alternator for our 2.3L ecoboost. They seem to be on back order just about everywhere, and when not be ready to shell out a good amount for it.

Explorers and Mustangs and their 2.3L ecoboost also have several high output aftermarket alternators you could put on your ranger.

Finally and the most sure-bet would be take your alternator to a local alternator shop, and they can certainly upgrade yours to be higher output.

Even with all the electronics on the Ranger, I feel the 150 amp should be more than adequate for what most anyone is doing. Even if you add some driving lights or a second battery, the 150 amp alternator can do a lot.

Just to finish off the requirements to upgrade the Alternator - if one was to choose to do it.
Then the 250 Amp Alternator & Replace the 225 Amp fuse with a 300 Amp Fuse on the BMFL.

The only noted (that I could find) As-Built file would be in the PCM would need changed to tell the PCM that a different amperage alternator is installed for the LIN circuit control of it.

No changes in the BCM as the BMS data files remain the same

7EO-162-01

From: Factory - 0085-0000-0085 (150-159 Amp Nominal)

To: Tremor - 008F-0000-0025 (250 Amp Nominal)

So, change xx85 to xx8F
