Bad u joints? 2019 ranger XL

My 2019 ranger shifts hard into gear. Mostly reverse but sometimes into drive. Wondering if it is the u joints and how to tell. Also how to replace them? Any info would be great thank you.

I know this is so newbie but I cannot locate the trans fluid dipstick.

Don't feel bad! It is located underneath on the transmission. A real PITA to get at. Several threads about it here. It's not accessible from the top like the old days.
