So just curious, mine is a 2022 and has the A. S. S. delete as well. Wondering if it will still work if I turn on the option in FORScan just wouldn’t be able to shut that option off or is there other missing hardware

The A.S.S. uses multiple sensors to determine whether or not it’s applied, one of them being the battery’s state of charge. For example, my A.S.S stopped working as a result of a weak battery.

Removing the plug from the BMS on the battery’s negative cable is another way of sending a signal that there’s something wrong with the battery. However, that’s not all it does because now the smart charging system becomes dumb and cannot read the battery’s true state of charge. Yes, things will survive, the vehicle will not self destruct and it will continue to operate, just not as well as it was designed to.

In this never-ending-discussion I go with the electrical engineers who designed the Ranger’s system and will leave the charging system alone. Hit the button when you start the truck and be done with it.

I found a solution to this actually. It's completely free, does not require a windows computer or fancy dongles, and doesn't even require a $3 nightlight in the back seat.

In fact, it only required about a week of practice. The trick is to hit that big fat Auto Start Stop button when you start the car. Left hand puts on seatbelt while the right hand starts the car and clicks the button all in one motion. It is so engrained in my head now that I most of the time don't even realize I have turned it off.
Obviously you're not as thick-skulled as I am. ? I tried to use the disable button when I first got the truck, but often forgot, and got tired of being annoyed with myself every time. The night light eliminated a bunch of aggravation, being as I dislike the feature so much. Not like it's the most expensive modification I've made to the truck.

ok so can you cite some examples as to " it will continue to operate, just not as well as it was designed to." the bms is what I would call layered SW onto the vehicles charging system and the smart charge is another add on to the base charging system - which vehicles had for decades before ASS and regenerative charging. Disconnect the bms and you still have a voltage regulation system, but it's doing what alternators and voltage regulators have done for decades - charging da battery to 100% . In the past 2 yrs since I've disconnected the bms I've done numerous 8hr plus trips and if ever there were any ill effects from disconnecting the bms I'm somehow not seeing them, what I am seeing is a battery that is in a much better state of health than when the bms was connected.
And yes I have a degree in engineering so I have a decent understanding of how a lot of sh*t works, but I'm fascinated why people make up all these bad things that supposedly will happen should one disco the bms , to date I've seen owners that do short trips complain about short battery life and warnings about the battery but I've yet to see anyone who has disconnected the bms saying their battery exploded or lights were burning out or whatever other bad things supposedly will happen. It would be nice if there was some factual experiences presented instead of people watching some youtube video that is largely based on FUD and conjecture. My factual experience in >2 yrs of disco that I've experienced positive results and nothing negative.

Needing to hit the button every time is as annoying as the folks that keep saying just hit the button.
I've got other buttons and levers to hit like the radio , AC , Cruise control , gear selection etc. Getting in your truck to drive shouldn't have to be like starting up a 757.

Is that a damper he's got his hand on? Could solve the question of where damper Dave has been hanging out these days

What the hell.?!? Why you bringing common sense and logic into this discusson? I did this on both my escapes and our current edge. Thankfully my truck came without it.

If you aren't making jet engine spooling noises while you flip all the switches and buttons during start up, what are you even doing??

Forscan... Takes less than 5 minutes. It was the first thing I did disabled, along with the horn honking when I closed the door and left the engine running. IE: to grab my mail.
How did you do that, I hate that feature?

My understanding of the vehicles that were built without it is that due to the chip shortage, they don't contain the necessary hardware for it to work.

I went into Forscan right after I got my truck and changed several things, mostly the annoying chimes.
I didn't disable the Auto start/stop because there are some times where I like it.
I live in a very small town with zero stoplights.
But if I go to Prescott (or Phoenix like I did yesterday), you'll sit in some long lights.

The nightlight thing sticking out wouldn't last long with my 70 lb. bird dog moving around back there.
I found that just some different pressure on the brakes will determine whether the A.S.S. will turn on or not.

If I roll up to a light and it has just turned green and the traffic is beginning to move ahead of me, I apply just enough pressure on the brake pedal to keep the truck from creeping forward, and the auto start/stop won't engage.
If I catch the light and am going to be there for a while, I mash down harder on the brake pedal and the auto S/S engages.
