Around 30K replace engine air filter - be very, very careful!
This should be the easiest maintenance on the 2019/20 Ford Ranger?

Per owner's manual:
( Ref. Dec. 2019)

1. Remove the clips that secure the air
filter housing cover.
2. Carefully lift the air filter housing cover.
3. Remove the air filter element from the
air filter housing.
4. Wipe any dirt or debris from the air filter
housing and cover to make sure no dirt
gets in the engine and that you have a
good seal.
5. Install a new air filter element. Be
careful not to crimp the filter element
edges between the air filter housing
and cover. This could cause filter
damage and allow unfiltered air to
enter the engine if it is not properly
seated.
6. Install the air filter housing cover.
7. Engage the clips to secure the air filter
housing cover to the air filter housing.

The trouble is getting to replace the engine air filter - the return line on the engine coolant reservoir
(on the left) blocks most of, if any, of the air filter cannister hinge movement and you could easily break this return line/hose off. Looks like the simple three clips removal is not enough?

Anyone else have this same problem?

pull the return line off when the system is cold and unscrew the cap to relive the pressure. it has a quick disconnect just for this purpose. just push square button on return line coupler and pull.

Should this "extra" maintenance procedure be in the owner's manual?

I leave the coolant hose conected. After disconnecting the iat sensor I can get the air filter out easily. Just have to remember to reconnect it of the engine light comes on.

I've found it easier to unscrew the hose clamp closest to the lid at the accordion elbow and then pull the lid off without disconnecting the return line. makes it easier to manage if its loose

I did this in order:
(Removing only three clips will not cut it)

1. Loosen the cap on the engine coolant reservoir to de-pressure
the "cold" reservoir.
2. Pulled the engine coolant reservoir line off by de-pressing
the square tab, on top of the hose connector.
3. Unclipped and pulled the IAT sensor wire away and loosened the stainless
steel hose clamp on the right side of the filter housing.
4. Unclipped the three clips on the air filter housing.
5. Removed the filter housing top cover.
(Reverse this order after replacing the $18 engine air filter)

Ref. Frenchy/JaysOnTheEDGE - thanks.

I just got done pulling out the filter on my truck, Didn't remove or disconnect anything.
Was the coolant hose in the way?
Maybe Ford fixed the problem?

I put a K&N in mine a few months back and only removed the clips. You guys are making it way harder than it needs to be lol.
Was the coolant hose in the way? (Mine was jammed against the coolant return - see pic above)
My removal procedure only takes 2 minutes to perform and prevents any possible hose/connection failure. Very little effort was performed and after all it's only have to been done every 30K.
Did you remove the top cover completely?

As part of servicing the Ranger yesterday (basically an oil change as the oil life was at 29% and the mileage is only 1800 miles since December 2019), I removed the air filter to inspect it. I was able to move the coolant hose slightly which made room to open the top cover enough to remove the filter. Easy peasy.

Just maybe Ford fixed the problem and found extra room on your vehicle. :)
Like I said "mine was jammed" and I am trying to determine if it was just my vehicle which I don't believe is the case. Getting parts for my XL vehicle, from Ford, takes forever and I like to error on the side of caution when performing DIY maintenance procedures.

You just destroyed your coolant system and air intake on your engine. Get ready to call the tow truck to take your vehicle to the junk yard. FMC will void your warranty
BTW if Bluto would eat spinach he could carry his vehicle to the junk yard :)
