True Value hardware announced bankruptcy today 75 years in business. My local hardware store is Tru Value and they said they heard some rumors Saturday afternoon but was official at 1:00 am this morning.

Hate seeing the little guys go, thats where you go when you actually need input on your project... home depot and lowes don't offer that... at least in bigger markets.

Interesting to see the buyer is Do It Best Hardware which seems to be a California-only chain at the moment. Anybody have experience with them?

My local store in a town of 550 population is very concerned who will be their supplier. Owner said that most of them require a large minimum order per year and a small-town store can't guarantee it can do that. Also, just read that Sunny Side Ford in Mass. in business 100 years is shutting down in November.

Sorry to hear that! It is my go to place for knowledgeable personal advice (unlike Lowes and Home Depot where you are fortunate to find someone who has even a vague knowledge on what you need) on projects. I love their ample selection of individual screws, nuts, washers, bolts; parts; etc. which saves money and time by preventing you from buying more than you need in packaged form.

I have used Do It Best hardware and they were fairly knowledgeable employees. They were on the smaller side but did cover most anything I needed. I have not used them since I retired though.

This was inevitable when all these big box stores rule the area(s) now. Sadly we're going to see more and more of this if/when the economy gets worse. Here in NWA Sam's Club and Walmart dominate the area because it's the main headquarters and birthplace (Bentonville) of Walmart.

Amazon is another one, They got everyone hooked on Prime and same or next day deliveries. I try my best to avoid these places was much as possible but sometimes there's just no choice.

We have do it best here in Indiana but few and far between one on the south side of Indy and one in Edinburgh. Probably more but those i know of.

Yes you're correct - I was doing a search for stores called Do it Best but apparently they DBA in most states. In Las Vegas they're called Desert Fastener and Supply. Very interesting! In CA they have a few stores actually called Do it Best and since I put 30 seconds worth of effort into my search - those are the only ones I saw ?
