Hey Brother! I have been a member since 2008. I live close (about 15 minutes) to the South Carolina border so we share a lot of missions.

It was an Alabama member who got me started. Great friend and I thank him for getting me in the PGR. I was born and raised Army,(born at Fort Gordon, GA.) but never joined. I was too thickheaded! Father and Mother were both Army (mom was a WAC for 4 yrs) and 1 brother who was Air Force (24yrs) and also CIA. Other family members are veterans.

Even though I have never served, I am not treated differently in the PGR. They respect me as I respect them. It is the one organization that I belong to. They understand that life gets in the way sometimes and are happy to see you when you can make a mission. I try to promote the PGR as much as possible.
Same here, think it was 2006. Can't stand the line or ride anymore. So that kind of sux.
But stood the line many times in tears with my brothers and sisters and there is nothing more humbling and heart wrenching imho as being right there for someone you never knew.

Sometimes family members are angry and I understand that. I was standing at the beginning of a line when a women, think (daughter), come running at me with anger in her eyes. I stood fast and thought she was going to clobber me. Next thing you know, she gave me the most strongest hug I ever gotten from someone outside my friends and family circle. She said 'crying, thank you for being here".... hard to top that...

I mentioned two sources: flag code and army regs.

This site sums it up for army reg 670-1

https://www.thebalancecareers.com/why-is-the-u-s-flag-worn-backwards-on-army-uniforms-3357002

One side is worn opposite.
You didn't quote the flag code because the flag code says no such thing. The army regs are a post-vietnam invention that is completely irrelevant unless you are in the army and trying to figure out what to put on your uniform. (Hint: your ranger isn't in the army and isn't part of any uniform.)

If you want to put a backwards flag on your truck you certainly have the right to. But to tell someone else that they have to put a backwards flag on their truck or that putting a normal flag on their truck is wrong is...not correct.

Was going to put a few muted American Flags on my truck right below the side vents. Was told by a neighbor that indicates former military (I'm not former mil, just patriotic) and that it would be "theft of honor."

Theft of Honor is definitely not my goal and neither is passing myself off as mil / ex-mil.

Is that really a thing? Only Military or Ex-Military should use the muted flag? I'm pretty sure it's covered by the first amendment but also not looking to ruffle any feathers - especially of those who served.
I was in the army for 24 years. I wouldn't be bothered at all by this.

Hi Folks,

I am a military brat. I proudly display the flag when I so choose, but honor some of the conventions...at Dusk I bring in the flag as I do not have a light on it (I am aware this is old school and you can leave it in the dark) Whether it is field of blue forward or aft is not an issue....if you display it you are a proud American...

Libs in our HOA decided to stop flying a flag as it was a violation of the HOA rules. I stuck the flag out there and brought in a portable light and kept it out front. Since I have an attorney benefit via Ford benefits, I had the attorney write a letter to the board demanding that the flag can be displayed for what ever reason. I threatened to sue....the HOA attorney told these libs to not go down the path as they would loose big time so the libs relented. Subsequently we voted them off the HOA board.

I will proudly display the Flag when ever I want!

Sincerely,
Phil Schilke

The flag code mentions field of stars on the left for displays on any vertical surface.

But it is talking About a flag, not patches. I furthered the argument for both being different based on army reg 670.

I can offer two pieces of information that can clarify a question.

He wanted to know how to display two flags on a truck, so I offered two sources for direction. Just because his truck or him or me or anyone isn't in the army doesn't preclude him from displaying flags in such a way.

And I also don't understand why it being post Vietnam matters if your argument is that none of it matters.

Your tone and abruptness leaves me to believe you are emotionally charged and will begin verbally assaulting me over some flag stickers , so I think it's best if I stop watching this thread.

The flag is properly displayed with the stars upper left. Upper right is used on uniforms.
Displayed in a fixed position, the blue field is always in the upper left corner, whether the flag is displayed horizontally or vertically. When in motion, the blue field is always forward, thus on the driver's side of the vehicle, blue field is upper left as usual. Same flag displayed on the passenger side, in order for the blue field to be forward, the flag would be displayed with the blue field in the upper right. That's the tough one to understand maybe, but that's correct. It follows the rule that the flag will never retreat.

Yes, I'm a veteran and it is everyone's flag, please display it if you want. The flag certainly doesn't belong to just us veterans.

Left side, right side, forward backwards...
The flag never retreats. If you are standing to the right side of the flag you will see the stars forward, as someone would call it "backwards or reversed". First of all, those terms do not apply to our flag. It is never reversed or backwards if the stars are charging forward.

Fly your colors. Its your flag and the position of honor is always forward, whether from the left side or right side. Be a proud patriot, and not a prude or obnoxious one.

Just take a look at the flag raising on Iwo Jima. Nothing backwards about it at all. Ever forward, face the enemy head on.

Yep...my eyesight has gotten blurry in many a flag line and sometimes when doing an escort. That's awfully hard trying to ride with blurry eyes. Graveside is hard when Taps starts. :crying:

The family is most of the time so appreciative that there emotions run over to you. I always respond with "It is my honor to be here".

You don't have to stand or ride. We have vet that is to the point of he can't stand more than five minutes without pain, so he has a chair and us usually at the beginning of the flag line. He drives his car instead of riding. Being there for the fallen veteran is the most important part.

Ok....
New Flag Debate.

The Truck is named Col. Travis.
Do I go with the US Flag?
The Texas Flag (I live in AZ now)?
Or the Alamo Flag?

I'm still thinking the US Flag.

Fly all 3 and under them make a sticker as a note with this :giggle:
To the People of Texas & All Americans in the World—
Fellow Citizens & compatriots—

I am besieged, by a thousand or more of the Mexicans under Santa Anna — I have sustained a continual Bombardment & cannonade for 24 hours & have not lost a man — The enemy has demanded a surrender at discretion, otherwise, the garrison are to be put to the sword, if the fort is taken — I have answered the demand with a cannon shot, & our flag still waves proudly from the walls — I shall never surrender or retreat. Then, I call on you in the name of Liberty, of patriotism & everything dear to the American character, to come to our aid, with all dispatch — The enemy is receiving reinforcements daily & will no doubt increase to three or four thousand in four or five days. If this call is neglected, I am determined to sustain myself as long as possible & die like a soldier who never forgets what is due to his own honor & that of his country —

Victory or Death.
William Barrett Travis.
Lt. Col. comdt.

DEFINITELY not theft of honor. The military does not have sole ownership of the flag. Go ahead and show it proudly. Here's mine, with reversed flag on opposite fender.

(Oh, and I am also a vet.)
