My 2022 Ford Ranger with 63K miles on it needs to have the passenger side airbag replaced according to Gary Yeomans Ford dealership in Belleview Florida. The truck has never been in an accident. The airbag has not deployed (just the idiot light). I purchased the Ford Premier Plus warranty when I bought the truck. Apparently airbags is the one thing it doesn't cover. Replacing the airbag will be over $1000, over and above the $600 diagnostic fee that I already owe just to get my truck back. My Ranger love has evaporated.

What are they saying is wrong with it other than the light that it needs to be replaced on your dime?

They say it's the airbag itself. Not the sensors or wiring. If it were the sensors or the wiring Ford Premier Plus would have covered it. The "good" news is that the diagnostic fee is included in the repair cost , so that the total damages are "only" going to be around $1100. Should an airbag go bad in 2 years? The 2022 Ranger was delivered in December 2022 (COVID production delays), I ordered it in April 2022.

Not a fan of airbags. Any safety device that comes with a warning just doesn't make sense to me.
Wish I could get rid of the damn things.

I’d have some one else look at it that doesn’t sound right that the airbag itself is wrong. I would imagine it’s a bad wire or sensor somewhere.

$600 (plus tax) to get my truck back unrepaired (diagnostic fee), or $1100 to get my truck back REPAIRED from Gary Yeoman Ford dealership in Belleview Florida. Got to pay the ransom either way. Hate it, but it is what it is. I agree with you that it sounds weird that a airbag should go "bad". Isn't an airbag just some sort of fancy firecracker after all? I would imagine that the electronic ignition system that sends a spark to the firecracker would be the failure point, not the firecracker itself. The electronics ARE covered by warranty. The firecracker is NOT covered.

Make sure you get the "bad" airbag back. You may be able to have an independent study do to find out if it was really bad.
If wire and sensors were good, how does one tell if the airbag itself is "bad/defective".....makes no sense.

Apparently airbags are only covered under the original manufactures warranty....3 yrs/36000 miles for our Rangers, unless you have the extended warranty.
