Context? Commonly, OP is "Original Poster" ie, Thread starter
Did I not pose my question correctly? LurchOR/ aka OP has not replied to any questions since post #1...

OK, just logged back in here and I see that there are a lot of diagnostic opinions about what happened to me. Thank you to all who offered suggestions. To those who think I should have stayed chained to my computer waiting for replies... not so much. My OP was asking about how common or uncommon this might be.

I picked up this truck out of storage and drove it - for the first time - 30 mins the first day. The AC problem happened the next day, so to say that I was unfamiliar with the controls is an understatement. The first day it wouldn't ASS and displayed a "disabled due to vehicle charging", or something similar. I don't recall if the ASS was active or not during the slow traffic and I didn't figure out how to get coolant temp displayed until later on.

I do know that the fan roars like a lion when starting out. If this happens again I will take copious notes to assist in diagnosis.

Thanks again to everyone for their suggestions.

It could also be that AC isn't on auto...WTH is OP?

My PROFOUND apologies -- I foolishly thought WTH was "What the Heck", did not recognize it as "Where the Hell". I will endeavour to better interpret alternative acronyms henceforth.

Mine makes a lot of "fan" noise as well--First thing each day -- Appears just to be a "characteristic" of this design.

This issue is not related to the ASS. It will start the engine to maintain temp as others noted.

I've noticed sometimes that while even in auto the climate control will turn off the a/c (no longer selected on screen) and by hitting auto again or off/on it will select a/c again. Or override with your finger. This may have happened without you noticing as it has happened to me

If not that then you probably have a real issue. Had my truck out in 115 degree heat all day in the desert and blew cold the whole time

This might sound dumb but did you make sure your recirculation switch was/is in the ON position?

Well dammit, I had to try to give dumb advice again. My truck has the poor man's manual climate control version.
I hope you get it sorted out though.
Mine does too Chris - it wasn’t the advice, I was just taking a fun little jab at you for resurrecting a three year old thread with a reply. 😀

Lol, I didn't even realize I was responding to such an old post. It was lumped in with my current posts. And probably because it was so freaking hot here for the last six days...that shit's gone now though.
All good, and that was a well deserved response I received on this.

And of course now that it's 3 years later, we all know that it was likely the heater box causing the problem.
