I seriously doubt that Ranger is totaled or even close to being totaled. Regarding totaling a vehicle, the other factor to consider is the salvage value to the vehicle. I used to have a 2017 Mustang GT that was rear ended and totaled when it was 2 years old. The damage estimate was $22k and Geico cut me a check for a little over $30k. The reason they did not fix it was that my Mustang had a salvage value that was estimated to be @ $13k at that time.
My claims adjuster told me if the repairs were 75% or more than the value of the vehicle they would total it. I agree with you, I don't think it is close to being totaled.

Some good explanations here of frame machines and how they work; however, its pointless to even talk about it with some people since they think a bent frame = totaled vehicle.

Forgot the airbags, sorry about that. Airbag systems are ”smart” systems, and designed to take directionality and speed of a collision into account before deploying. From the picture, an airbag deployment would only have left you with powder burns and possibly a broken nose, and done nothing to protect you.
I was a body shop advisor with a Ford dealership and a large national chain for ten years. I’ve seen plenty of damaged cars, and my best advice is to always go to a shop you have checked out and trust. No one can force you to have your vehicle fixed anywhere you don’t agree to.
Ringing ears too. I had a set deploy on me after a day at the range. Guess what caused ringing for two days.

Thanks everyone for the replies and stories. Sorry to hear some of you are in the same boat.

Update: The body shop just called. The front frame section is badly damaged. He seemed to think the truck may end up being totaled.

And it seems the original towing company jacked up the rear bumper and hitch, probably by dumping it (in park) off the flatbed.

Don’t forget to demand additional compensation for diminished value. Once you have a wreck, it will be reported on car fax and your resale value will be effected.

Edit: never mind then. If totaled, you're almost better off. Get a new truck. (If you can find one).

Sorry to hear about your truck. I'm surprised the frame was that damaged. My Brother-in-law rear ended another truck a while back. His frame was bent, but minimal body damage (Lifted truck, other truck went under his). They actually frame swapped the whole thing and get him back on the road. Granted, a lariat F-150 holds a bit more value than our Rangers, but seems like they could do the same for a Ranger (or a frame section like Phil mentioned) and not hit that 75% mark. But I'm not a body guy, so I don't know anything haha Hope you have good luck which ever way it goes.

When my frame got damaged a couple months ago the at-fault guy's insurance wanted to do a full frame swap rather than total it out. Bodyshop estimated 3-6 months of time, mostly just waiting on parts. I have my insurance properly total it instead. On top of the wait time, there is the diminished value, and the permanent structural/safety damage to the vehicle, and most folks who have gone through repairs like that will attest that vehicles that go through massive repairs like that will have little problems throughout the life of the vehicle.

Sorry to hear about your truck. Make sure you research what trucks like yours are going for before you accept a settlement from the insurance company. Maybe you can replace it with a Ranger Tremor!

You're lucky that it's likely will be totaled.

Awwwww man. That really sucks and I'm sorry to hear it. I hope they get you settled soon and hopefully into a new truck!

The main thing is no one was hurt.

It is hard to tell from those photos what the extent of damage really is. The OP won't know until a repair shop looks at it and gives an estimate. As other have said, there are many factors that are taken into consideration on if a vehicle is totaled.

I went through that process in April-May of 2019 when my 2018 Jeep Renegade was hit from the side at the front left wheel. I can tell you that the 75% value is not set in stone, each state and/or insurance will be different. Here in Missouri with State Farm, the threshold is 80% of the market value.

I know the body shop where I took the Renegade to was happy that it was totaled. The owner stated that even fixed, the vehicle would never be the same.

Proper towing/ loading onto flatbed truck includes disengaging the transmission. That being said, and the fact that no key went with the truck, it had to have been pulled off the truck, I would document this occurrence, notify the insurance company this was done to cover your 6 should something "fail" in the drivetrain when it is finally back on the road.

From the looks of it mostly outer skin parts and paint. Crash bar took the brunt of it. I’m guessing about 7.5K when all said and done.
$7,500….hmmm. More than $6,000+ for this, so, don’t hold your breath.
