I was wondering if it was cheaper to buy the 5" Rectangular Running Boards from the factory or have it installed by my dealer.

From Ford's website, it shows that the 5" Rectangular Running Boards are $635 when installed at the factory. However the leaked accessories guide shows the same running boards only being $399 + 0.5 hours of labor to install. Even if labor is $130/hr in the San Francisco area, the price should only be $399 + $65 total.

Of course labor is free if you do it yourself.

Does Ford offer retractable running boards? If not, I would prefer to get them aftermarket.

I want a set but don't like Ford's versions.
I want a black set that sits more flush under the door area. Too much space with Ford's black set. I think the chrome set fits closer but I don't want chrome trim.
Nothing out there yet for the '19. I can't find anything.

The stock running boards are almost useless unless you're short and need them to get into the vehicle. I'm 6'2 and they are way more annoying than useful to me. They get my pant leg dirty every time if I'm not paying attention. I'll be removing them as soon as the ground isn't 30°

I'm going for the look. I'll never step on them. I feel a black set of boards would work well with the black trim and tint. Also, hide the ugly pinch weld area that can be seen.

I'm going for aftermarket nerf steps. I had some from n-Fab on my Colorado and really liked them. N-Fab has a slightly newer version called Epyx which sit even tighter to the body. They say it will be at least another month before they are ready. https://n-fab.com/epyx-steps

I have n-fabs kinda like these on my Tacoma. I really like them. They installed quite easily into existing bolt holes. In 2014 they were $290 including shipping. Not the best picture but you can see them here I think.

My neighbor down the street bought a new Tacoma and has those type. He bought them from the dealer. I don't know if they are the same brand but they are that style..

As far as installing them your self, there are 5 plastic caps on each side under your Rangers body. Just pop them off and the threaded mounting points are underneath. It took me 10 minutes each side. I would recommend doing them yourself and saving the money that you would have paid to haver them installed.

In a quick look,I thought I saw 3.Only 3 brackets needed for the boards.

Has anyone found aftermarket steps/nerf/boards available? All I've found seem to be universal boards with "brackets sold separately".. and of course no brackets for 2019 Ranger.. I suppose I could make them.. but will probably just wait

Go to the Dee Zee web site. They have the Hex Steps and brackets for the Ranger. Brackets are DZ66328. Carid also has them. They are around $150 - $160 for brackets.

PS - ordered the Dee Zee Hex Steps. Ordered the rail and steps from Amazon for $351 and the brackets from Jegs for $162 with shipping/tax.

Am really interested in what you went with Dennis - any chance you can post the links to the parts you bought and pics when you get it all installed? Would really appreciate it!
