The 5G Rangers will disengage 4L to 4H at about 22 mph. It will remain in 4H until you come to a stop, then it will re-engage 4L, if still selected. The same is true going from 2H or 4H to 4L on the move. It won't engage 4L until you stop. 4H can be engaged up to 68mph/110kmh.
That's what I said. Just to clarify, you can leave the twist knob in 4L, and at 20mph, it will disengage 4L, staying in 4H. When you want 4L again, you have to come to a complete stop. If you've left the knob in 4L, it will now reengage.

There will be messages in the driver display telling you what's going on and what to do next.
No, you're 100% absolutely wrong.

The transfer case with NEVER under ANY circumstances disengage from low range on its own, especially at speed. You're either misunderstanding something you're reading or confusing with the elocker, but it is physically impossible for the transfer case to shift between low and high range at vehicle speeds (which is why the dash warns about being at 3MPH or less).

Your truck will never go from 4H to 4L or from 4L to 4H on its own due to vehicle speed.

Since you’re specifically asking about snow 4H is your friend. It works well in snow. Note the stock Hancook tires are terrible on snow and ice. I installed some Falken Wildpeaks and they are a huge improvement on snow and ice.

10-4. I must have been confused with the E-locker. That goes in and out on the fly. Thinking back, I have moved the twist knob from 4H to 4Lon the fly and got a message on the display saying to stop and put the trans in Neutral first.

All I got is 2H and 300lbs of sand
I'm pretty impressed with how well my 2wd does in light snow. We had about an inch here today, and I had no real traction issues at all and my tires are a little worn. The traction control does a pretty legit job. My first truck was a '99 Sonoma and it always struggled for traction in similar weather.

Yup. 4L requires massive meshing in the transfer case, and I haven't run into a vehicle that doesn't require you in neutral, and usually at a stop as well, in order to engage/disengage.

Do manuals come with cars anymore? ?
And instructions are just one person's opinion. More like guidelines if you ask me.
Only to be read when all else fails.
And this forum would be just about dead if it wasn't for questions where people didn't rtfm or search it themselves.?

Second this. I got stuck at an intersection few feet away from the house. Engaged 4H and it drove through the snow with ease. Can't wait to swap out the tires.
