Now that is funny!😁
My favourite part is when the cop gets out and instead of nabbing the bad guy, he goes to the back of the cruiser. Hilarious.

This advice cannot be repeated enough. 4WD does NOTHING to help you STOP or gain additional traction on curves. I've seen way too many people in 4WD vehicles driving WAY too fast because they think they have traction.

4WD helps you GO, but it does nothing to help you STOP.
Here is an example on Maple Lane, a notorious bad intersection in Big Bear, CA. Many of the vehicles are AWD or 4WD.

You mean the ram 2500 with his 10 inch lift and 400mm wide rubber bands and 25 inch wheels shouldn’t have layed on his horn and flashed me before proceeding to pass me on the shoulder for not going 90 in whiteout conditions?? 😆

Seriously. I don’t know what it is with trucks but some think 4wd can make them stop on a dime. The amount of times I’ve seen full size or super duty class trucks run into the highway median is above any other vehicle type.

After watching that, the other thing that comes to mind is the people who just leave their wheels locked up while sliding - it is better to let the wheels roll and try and be very light on the brakes than just plow thru. So many bad snow drivers..... When we get snow here I hate to drive in it because very few people know how to drive in snow and ice smartly. I'm not worried I will get in trouble, I'm worried someone will hit me.

I would argue that 4WD can make things worse since you might not realize how slippery conditions are since you can get going just fine. So many drivers are just not attentive to current conditions - and "common sense" isn't very common anymore it seems.

It's not only trucks but SUV's too. I can't tell you how many soccer moms I've seen (back in MA) flying down the highway after the first snowstorm "thinking" just because they have 4wd/AWD they're good to still drive like that. Then usually a few miles down the road they're off in a ditch or worse rolled over! 🤦‍♂️

Same goes for when it rains here. Most here never slow down and are still driving 80+ mph during a rain storm. It's like they've all forgotten what they learned in driving school and have never heard of hydroplaning. After every storm just turn on the news and you'll see several accidents all across the valley or someone stuck in the middle of the road where the big yellow sign says "Do not cross when flooded".

There are two places you are guaranteed free live entertainment - a highway underpass that floods when it’s a heavy rain, and a boat ramp at a state park.

Set up the lazy boy and grab some popcorn you’ll be in for a show.

Ha Ha, a few years ago we were in the US, in New Orleans of all places when one of those " 100 year Arctic Events" blew down straight from the north of Canada to the US south. It snowed in New Orleans, (and Texas too BTW) I'd noticed before that NO drivers had a technique where they drove at ~ 80MPH everywhere and then slammed on their brakes at the last minute at stop signs or red lights. Well with the snow, well, it just wasn't working for them, there were sirens and ambulances everywhere. We had wanted to do a river boat cruise but they refunded our tickets because it was sleeting, and we had booked an outside table, the airport was closed because NO has no de-icing equipment and probably wouldn't know how to use it even if they did. However I can attest to the warming powers of a nice spicy gumbo. :like:

Fortunately for us there's YouTube and we can watch all these boat ramp fails.😂 🍿

So, as most of you suspected, the culprit was my ignorance. My knowledgeable service manager, who drives an F150 and knows 4WD quite well, took the truck out and said what I was experiencing was definitely in the realm of "normal" in terms of bucking and lurching. When I asked why it wasn't quick to shift in to 2H when I wanted to turn into a parking spot, he said to make sure that there is no torque being applied either way (acceleration or braking); this allows the components to disengage and to turn easily into the space. He even suggested to shift into neutral briefly if it is safe to do so. He also said to head to Menard's and get some 70 lb. sandbags!

Thanks for the help, everyone. Not too late to teach an old goat something new!
