So us XL and XLT guys are stuck with halogen 3rd brake lights and cargo lights. I really want LED's here as they are brighter and last longer.

So I have a theroy that I will be the guinea pig on. Ford likes to share parts to save money, so I believe the 3rd brake light housing on the 2019 Ranger is the same as a 2015+ f150. They look exactly alike in pictures. So I ordered a smoked led one off Amazon. I will report back once I get it.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to just replace the bulbs with LED ones?

Got the light today and it looks like it will be a perfect fit. Unfortunately, I can't go put it on right now.:rain: .:(

I, for one, have found the "bed light" that comes on all trucks, to be pretty worthless....dim and unfocused. Maybe the LED's will be better than those I've bought in the past. (fingers crossed)

Agreed, from the reviews I read on this one I'm not expecting much better. Especially with the smoked housing. This is why I did separate under rail LED's on my super duty.

Edit: So the rain stopped and even though it's 30 something degrees, I "tried" installing it.

I can confirm the it is the same 3rd brake light as 2015+ F-150. Fit is dead on, and everything lines up.

However, I'm not sure on the plug. I figured the plug would be just inside, behind the light. Nope, its under the headliner. :frown: This means, I'm going to have pull back the C pillar plastic, so I can try to drop the rear of the headliner to access the plug, and hopefully it matches. Or I can do plan B, and just cut rewire it in, which may have to happen anyway, if the plug doesn't match.

Stay tuned.... I'm not pulling the headliner tonight.o_O

Here are some pics of what the light actually looks like. I wired it up to a old car battery, so the lights may be brighter when actually on the truck with a full battery. I also haven't removed the protective plastic yet.

Got this installed tonight. I was able to just pull the headliner back a bit and get my fingers in there. You do have to push a push clip away from the body on the light side. Other then that and you'll need to file down some nubs on the new light and then it plugs right in and works.

The brake light comes on quicker and is more noticeable. The cargo lights.....well they look neat, kinda worthless for bed lights though:thumbsdown:. I will also add some silicone around it to be on the safe side. But it's pretty much plug and play.

Anyway on with the pics.

So this pretty much confirms the light is the same as the F150 which means that fancy antenna mount break light thingy will also fit. Nice work!

This reminds me how on the last generation ranger, the 3rd brake light was shared between the ranger and the F250. Ford loves the already existing parts bins!
