May I please ask to have others verify this concern when they cold start there 2022 ranger?

Dose not matter if it is hot outside or cold. The tick goes away after about 5 minuets of Idling.

I have about 4100 miles on it. I am going to be changing the oil at 5000 miles. With amsoil boosted and yes it will be changed every 5,000 miles using a wkis filter.

Thank you.

Probably the fuel injectors. Normal.

If its a quiet tick then yes. Compare it to other DI motors. They are noisy little buggers. But if it is louder it could be cause for concern. Mine definitely makes some noise but in 24k of ownership it never got louder or quieter for that matter.

To me it doesn't sound like the regular injector buzz. The rate is too slow like it's just one cylinder. My old Durango has piston slap on one cylinder and sounds just like this. It go's away once it's warmed up.

For reference here's what my truck sounds like on a cold start.

Sounds like mine. First couple times I aired up the ticking scared me, but now I know it’s good to go.

Your video is from a different perspective. Plus the OP has the engine cover. Could change the tone slightly.

Your right but I was mainly listening to the speed of it. His has a kind of slow tapping noise I haven't heard in a Ranger before.
Ah you are correct. It is at a different speed. Maybe its in one of the belt driven Accessories.

I agree. What you hear in your vid is the high-pressure fuel pump, sounds like a sewing machine.
OP's is a slower tick, sounding like metal on metal. It sounds like in older OHV engines this sounds like a bad lifter. Of course, no lifters in the 2.3L. This need to be investigated further.

True. I have seen belts start to unravel and make at tapping sound. Hopefully it's something minor like that.

Open the hood, simple things first. Make sure rhe fan isn't hitting anything. Belt, and all accessories are clear of anything in the way? But at first glance, a lifter? I know the engine does not have em. But does not sou nd normal. Doesnt sound like valves rattling, or a timing chain slapping or rattling. And does not sound like the other video posted on here. My engine sounds like the other video posted here. Lots of noise and rattling. But not a knocking sound

I bought a 2019 Ranger in March, that had all its previous maintenance done at a dealership. That tick went away when I changed my own oil, with something other than Motorcraft oil. Leads me to believe its a valve train tick.

They typically have some sort or follower that is similar to a lifter and can tick as well.

Yeah that has the cadence of engine knock, but not exactly the sound. Could be something on the pulley system slapping. I'd take it to Ford before spending any money. Put the warranty to work.

Only relevance oil has here is the volume they added in the factory. Check the level, try to see if any accessories are making the noise, hand it off to Ford if it isn't anything obvious.

Hello, new to the forum and truck ownership. I’ll happily create my own post if it would be better. I as well have a similar sound from my 2022 Ranger. It has just over 21k miles.

I made a couple recordings of the sound. If I need to make a new thread I’ll happily do just that. Otherwise I will post the videos.
