Ok since my 2020 fx4 is in the shop, they gave me a 2021 xlt. It rides better is significantly quitter, it even asks you to check the back seats. There's almost no noise from the hpfp and the back end feels much more stable. So the question is what has changed?

Well an FX4 is gonna ride different than a non FX4. What mods do you have done? I highly doubt build quality Is any different. My 19’ XL has no to minimal noise From hpfp and is quite as a whistle inside the cab goin down the freeway

I have a 2021 XLT and have been very pleased with the build quality. In theory, the build quality should improve a little each year as assembly processes are fine tuned. Practice makes perfect as they say.

This ^

I work in manufacturing (technology, not automotive, so cycles are a little different, but it is all the same).

If you can, never buy the first two years of a vehicle cycle. First year (or initial production) has too many bugs to work out. The second year production starts too soon for all the data from the first year to come in and make a difference on factory processes and material quality. The third year and onward see significant improvement. By the start of year three, hopefully enough quality issues from the initial builds have had time to be addressed. Not to say you won't have a good vehicle in the first year of production, but your risks of quality issues is higher than a few years later.

In theory, yes.

But practically speaking, not this year.

The plant has been plagued with shut downs, part shortages, and the addition of a new brother to the line.

In fact, the only thing that worries me about my truck is it's 10/2020 build date.

It's the tires. Your 2020 FX4 has Light Truck tires. LT265/65R17 load range C. Your loaner truck has Standard Load (SL) tires. If it's an FX4 also, then it has 265/65R17 or the 18" wheel equivalent.

Light Truck tires will ride rougher than standard load tires.

If there is a sign in the newer Rangers that warns the driver not to exceed 4,500 MPH, then I would agree that the build quality must have been improved from our 2019 models....
