In our effort to take our 2019 Ranger Build on hard turn toward SEMA-ville, we decided to install some lighting to fit in with all the kool kidz. Our first major lighting upgrade was the 2019 Ranger Baja Designs SAE/DOT Amber Squadron Sport Fog Light Kit. The install video is now up on our YouTube Channel.

This kit, overall, is pretty good. The lights are bright and the beam pattern has a nice cutoff to keep from blinding everyone. Install was pretty straightforward, though I feel like Baja Designs could've had the connector pre-assembled with the PhDs in lighting and all. Minor gripe, but hey.

Man you guys like to do things the hard way! I did a full write-up on this forum. Removing the splash guard and plastic behind the fog lamp is unnecessary and a huge PITA!

In Summary: on the FX4, you need only turn the wheels into the direction of the side you’re working on, drop the bash plate and remove the air deflectors hanging in front of each wheel. Voila! You have access to the fog lamps. I did the initial install and then had to replace one lamp that BD replaced under warranty for a defective LED. Half as many steps and half the time. Just saying.

You need to keep in mind that we also need to be able to film all the steps. Having a video of Noah's hands behind a splash guard doing things off-camera isn't exactly helpful to anyone.

It's a conceit of filming, and there are absolutely faster ways to do half the installs we film.

Hell, for our upcoming rear shock install, we have the truck on a lift and the rear wheel removed, neither of which is necessary, since a shock swap can be done with the truck on the ground in five minutes per side.

How do these lights perform in a snow storm? Are they a good choice to cut down on the Star Wars effect from the oem fogs and headlight?

We haven't tried them in heavy snow ourselves, and I doubt we'll get the opportunity any time soon (Gotta love Arizona).

But in theory, they should. Amber does not reflect off of white or atmospheric particulates the way white/white-ish lights do, so they should cut down on the disco-ball thing really white lights (5000K to 6000K) tend to do in heavy snow.

I bought them specifically for heavy snow and early morning fog here in Colorado. And I have now used them in both conditions several times. I was blown away how much light they put off with the wide beam (cornering) amber lenses. The amber light cuts through both incredibly well giving me far more forward and roadside visibility than I thought I would get from these lamps. Definitely a major safety improvement for seeing and being seen in low visibility conditions.

Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated.

Do you have a link to that write up of yours? Thanks

Just ordered my sae amber fog lights yesterday. Can't wait. How do they compare with the stock fog lights?

It's pretty apples and oranges with stock. You get more output and more useful lighting in heavy dust, fog, and snow over stock so they're nothing but a good thing.

Your eye does perceive amber a little differently than white, so they may seem a little dim if you're comparing them side by side with a white set of LED fogs. But if you go kick up some dust you'll notice a significant difference.

That’s makes sense. Especially compared to white LED fogs. But the stock White halogen fogs are pretty dim.
