My dad had a F-350 with the V10 that he recently replaced. Engine could still drive on the highway with a couple cylinders out of order and the truck wouldn't complain. 10 was also the MPG he gotGreg Foutz is a friend of mine, and he raced a Stock Class F Series pick up as one of my "House Teams"..meaning free parts and piloting test parts for us. Most amazing thing was when he lost a freeze plug in the engine in a race and the engine when into limited operation mode by only hitting on various cylinders to keep from serious engine damage. When I told Engine Engineering of this, they sent Greg a new V10 engine so they could tear down this problem motor. What found was that the strategy worked and there was no real damage to the engine even under race conditions...

Probably, but I'd much rather unbolt stuff than weld.Anyone make one without having to unbolt the diff cover?
I've seen bolt on over the diff on Tacos...Probably, but I'd much rather unbolt stuff than weld.
I agree with this. I had this thought when I was ordering diff lock. "If I'm anywhere I really NEED diff lock, I'm way beyond anywhere I wanted to have a $40k truck already"Seems cool but.. how many people have busted rear diffs on mid size trucks. Differentials are pretty stout, even if you did hit a rock off roading it is likely you aren’t going very fast and no damage would occur. Unless your really driving fast beating up your truck I don’t see a need for one. Maybe I’m the only one that feels this way.. just my .02
Haha well I would much rather have a diff lock than diff skid plate thing. I don’t know I mean I do some fairly aggressive 4 wheeling in rocks and one of the last things I worry about is hitting a rock with the rear diff and breaking it. Just seems like a good way to lessen your grand clearance and waste money on something “cool”I agree with this. I had this thought when I was ordering diff lock. But I still got it because it's cool. Lol

Hey Phil! That’s kinda what I was thinking.Hi Tyler,
We taught an advanced Off Road School to Ford engineers. One of the key takeaways for slow off roading is to place your tire on the rock. Do not expect clear the rock on the middle, underneath the vehicle. If you do this the Diff is protected to a degree. Foutz part is for those racing off road. So agree, for those not racing, it would be the coolness factor.

I would be pretty surprised if that was truefwiw, I believe the new Dana spicer axles are aluminum, or at least somewhat aluminum.
