Maybe someone who works in tire sales can chime in, but here are my thoughts. For a truck tire the 18” tire seems to be more readily available than the 17” here in the U.S.

Granted that the Ranger has a full size spare, but you might be riding on that spare for a while as you wait for your special order tire to come in at your local tire shop.

Just a thought. I was sitting at my local Discount Tire this morning to do my seasonal wheel swap (All Season for Winter Tires). This sales guy agreed with me that the 17” is far less common.

Probably depends on the tire. There's plenty plenty of 17" all terrain tires. I haven't looked at any other types though.

Personally I don't like the look of 18" rims on trucks or offroad vehicles so I'll be getting the 17s. My Jeep has 15s with 35s and I love look of all that rubber. I'm hoping the fx4 will fit about a 32" tire.

Same here, low rubber looks weird on trucks. And if I ever sized up the wheels, I'd upsize tires to keep the same firewall aspect ratio.

This is the 18” wheel option. I don’t think it looks funky, but I understand your point regarding extra sidewall.

I prefer having more rubber/less wheel but I really like the way those particular 18's look. Tires sure start to get expensive for bigger wheels though.

Up until the Ranger "Order Guide" was posted on this site I thought the 17" tires on the XLT 4x4 were 255/65R17. That's the size the build site shows as well as the dealer info. The order guide states the tire size at P265/70R17. Does anyone know which size is correct?

To me it looks like the 265 is correct. But that's just what I read I could easily be wrong. That happens allot.

Wondering if 19's or 20's would fit.
