While the 10 speed was a joint design project between GM and Ford, the internals are far from interchangeable. Even the transmissions between the Ranger, Mustang, F150 and other uses have some differences. Mainly in the clutches, things like number of disks. And yes, GM and Ford did their own programming, which is probably model specific also. So, direct comparisons can only VERY generally be made. But, it is true the Ford 10 speed has been and is out there for a while in hundreds of thousands of vehicles. It does seem to have some weaknesses that are just showing up, on a few of them. Hopefully Ford will step up and correct them.

Full disclaimer: I have a 2019 XLT FX4 with 34K. I have had NO issues with my transmission. It is a little rough on the first shifts on a cold morning if I don't let it warm up a little. Mine does NOT lug in town, I do know what lugging sounds and feels like, I have driven standards all my life. I have the FitzStick dip stick and plan on the PPE Pan when I change the fluid and filter a 35K. I do not believe the Ford recommended interval of 150K is reasonable for longevity.
The weaknesses showed right after they were introduced a few years ago and continue. This is across models. It did not take time.

I think of it as forum informed: DPFE and Transmission, without info here would not have known about their issues. After finding info did a pan drop and filter change at 50k miles. 6.5 quarts replace and seemed to make shifting smoother. Just hit 80K and did fluid (5 quarts) plus add Lubeguard platinum changed through the Fantastic Fitzstick. My ESP runs to 100K miles once it is finished will install PPE pan.

I have notice that if i don't warm up trans fluid to over 50 degrees i will get hesitation and harsh shift 1-2. To warm it up shift through P-R-N-D and back through stopping in each for 20 seconds before driving. Like this
I check temp with Scan Gauge II there are others but i wanted one that is stand alone.

It is justified. My crapped out at 75k. I have a fitz stick now and will do an aluminum pan around 105k when its fluid time. 2022.5 or so is when all the good hard parts were updated. My new transmission (cant say trans, mechanic told me that) shifts like an automatic is supposed to. I dont notice it anymore, unless I am flooring it.

Yup, that's my experience and plan too.
Mike's FitzStick on order, will do my own 'flush' with it, and go from there.
No problems so far, and I want to keep it that way.
I like this truck, so I'll try to do my part, and plan to keep it for the long haul.
I know shit happens. But I try to keep it at bay.

Alright, so when mine crapped out and I got it towed to the dealer a mechanic was at the service desk. He over heard me and said oh you’re the guy with the ranger. And I replied and you’re the trans guy. He firmly stated no…. I am the transmission guy. Then laughed. Considering what trans means now, I get it.

I told a guy a work this story, and he asked how it felt to blow my trans. It all went down hill after that for me.

This is not an insult to anyone who is transgender whatsoever. So please do not take it as such. Just a play on words.

Ok, from the transmission guy's standpoint, I get it now. At least you didn't call him the trans gal!

so with the latest tsb it seems pretty clear that ford has identified a problem with the cdf clutch cylinder--prophylactic transmission fluid changes aren't going to fix that, they're just going to waste money.

I will argue to a point. That argument will be the fact that you should change the Transmission Fluid much sooner than 150,000 miles. Not doing such will result in a failed transmission regardless of what the manufacturer identified as a problem.

The scan gauge II will read transmission temp? I thought you had to get scan gauge III for that.
