Good price for a good fluid. At $6.49 it is competitive with Motorcraft.
Good time to stock up for the DIY'ers.
Anyone else having issues with pages here crashing their phones? Just started over the weekend. I will go to load a page and it will actually bring the phone to its knees and then crash. Only happens with R5G, none of the other forums I visit, although I think 5G is the only one that uses...
This is just about the lowest price you're going to see on this fluid. I've used it, works just as well as Motorcraft ULV and it is cheaper than RockAuto once you take into account shipping. I think NAPA will ship it to you for free if you order over $35.

Everyone always recommends replacing the rear shocks on trucks for serious towing duty. That never really sat quite right with me as I'm usually in the 'I prefer a matched set' camp. When I first started towing seriously with the Ranger I upgraded the rear like a lot of other people and...
Decided to tear my old one apart tonight.
Answer is, not much. The actual sensor looks to be a tiny strain gauge, which makes sense.
When these things were $20 I'd say just replace them, now I'm thinking if maybe a small packet of desiccant inside that tube wouldn't give longer life to it...
Not a pile of people talk about 2WD trucks. So here's a few notes from my Bilstein install toady.
- You only need to break the upper ball joint loose, no need to break the tie-rod end. (Pull the brake line and wheel speed sensor lines off first.
- Also remove the upper sway bar link bolt.

"Jimmy passed away peacefully on the night of September 1st surrounded by his family, friends, music and dogs,” a statement said late Friday on the musician’s official website and social media feeds."

I had a conversation out of the blue with a dude from Australia on another forum and he remarked that the vehicles (Ranger/Everest) with the 10R80 down there come/came with a dipstick and gave me two part numbers. Of course, we can't order them here in the US and online parts searches are meh...
In case anyone wants to look:
I had a chance to sit down tonight and whip out some quick and dirty graphs, since I'm a visual learner. Thought I would share those here.
This is all data logged by Torque Pro. I don't know why the time is screwy on the 'unloaded without pan' graph, but I don't...
Not sure who, or if anyone will be interested in this, but here it is.
Finally got around to weighing the going camping setup. Had the chance today to do it while bringing the camper back from getting some warranty work done.
Three things are missing from these weights. The wife and dog...
For those of you who haven't seen one. I've torn apart the filter from my recent change and had a good look at it.
Ford really put some effort into making sure that crud stays out of the inner workings of the 10R80, it baffles me why they recommend a 150k regular service interval for it...
Lots of folks hate those stupid little plastic screw inserts that hold the cover on to access the oil filter, and for good reason, they suck.
If you're not opposed to opening up the 3 holes very slightly with a step drill, you can install these GM Style fasteners:
On my 2wd truck, there is...
Here's some data I grabbed the other day. Not a particularly hot day or hard tow, and I'll try and get some more as we get into hotter temps down here. Just showing that towing big heavy things really doesn't have as much effect on the transmission temps as you would thing with this truck.
I...
Just back from a week long trip at the House of the Mouse in Florida. We tend to go every 5 years or so for a week, but this is the first time we've owned a camper so we drug the 26DJSE behind us and spent a week at the Fort Wilderness Campground.
A few notes.
The roads into the camp sites...
It quit raining here in Seattle Georgia long enough on Friday that I was finally able to complete the suspension upgrade of our 26DJSE. Out with the old, in with the new.
Not counting the probably 700ish miles that the trailer was towed from Elkhart, IN to Georgia for delivery, we have pulled...
A cautionary tale for anyone lubing the splines on their 2WD driveshaft.
The driveshaft is keyed, but can still be flipped 180 degrees.
Luckily, I'd ordered a 10 pack of boot clamps, so it wasn't a big deal, but I'm super annoyed with myself for making the mistake in the first place.
It's time to do my driveshaft lube again, and the Ford kit is a bit of a ripoff at $20, when you can buy the Ford PTFE lube in a 3oz tube for $16.
Does anyone know what the clamp size is? I'm just going to order a 10 pack of them from MCMaster Carr, and then I'll be set for the next several...
So many titles I thought about for this, and so many 'retro'...ummm movies, that you could film in this thing.
Poking around the net tonight, stumbled across this BAT auction.

Said to be 1 of 3, I have never seen ANYTHING...
This is just a heads up for those of you that want to change the fluid in your 10R80 with something other than Mercon ULV:
Amazon currently has a 6 pack of Valvoline ULV for $49 ($8.16/qt) which is the lowest I've been able to find it pretty much anywhere...
