  1. Collision Avoidance needs to add deer detection

It's a good point. Everyone knows that no matter how careful you are, there's always a chance you could be involved in an accident that is caused by someone else or by a momentary lapse of your own normally good judgement, and if the circumstances/timing are also bad, it could be unavoidable...
  2. Collision Avoidance needs to add deer detection

We had the whistles on our old truck and didn't hit any deer in the 260,000 miles we drove it. I'd been planning to put them on the new truck but luck ran out before I got to it. It could just be coincidence, but I suspect they do work to some degree in some circumstances. The one we hit...
  3. Collision Avoidance needs to add deer detection

After living and driving in the mountains for 35 years, we unfortunately finally ran into a deer on a winding road in Dixie NF in Utah about a month ago. It was around a tight curve so we weren't going that fast, but the deer darted out just as the side of the road it was coming from on came...
  4. transmission service

I took a different, non-approved approach as mentioned earlier in the thread. I don't have an aftermarket drain pan or dipstick yet. The main problem with the official procedure is that the exhaust system is very close to the right side of the transmission where the fill plug/dipstick is, and...
  5. transmission service

It's nice to see these coming online, I'd probably consider one of these to replace the existing plastic pan. The PPE one holds more oil than the stock pan, which is nice since you'd be changing a larger percentage of the oil with each change. It will be nice to know if they for sure work well...
  6. SABER Ranger Club Thread

We love Utah too!! Here's a nice dispersed camping site right by the river near Capitol Reef NP: Another nice camping spot in Dixie NF a week or so ago: White House trailhead near the Paria River last November:

Hi Phil, We factory-ordered our truck mainly because we wanted a SuperCab and they were hard to find on dealer lots back then, so since we had a choice of color we went with Saber. The funny part of the story is that when the truck arrived, it was the first Saber that any of them had seen at...
  8. transmission service

I got it from Amazon. Since I wasn't sure what to expect, I bought an entire "refill kit" from this link: https://www.amazon.com/Mityvac-MVA7212-Refill-Accessory-Adapter/dp/B0039P9BX0/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=mityvac+ford+transmission+adapter&qid=1600541888&sr=8-3 But I ended up only...
  9. Constantly getting flashed for brights

Nice. I'll check out that option too.
  10. Constantly getting flashed for brights

I have seen them mounted higher up like you describe, but I was thinking it also might be possible to mount them somewhere on the grille just next to the high beams. It might take some extra hardware and extra work though. Also, the grille varies between the trim levels and ours is an XLT, so...
  11. Constantly getting flashed for brights

I'm not sure if you're referring to light bars, but yeah, they can be a bit big and unwieldy if you're not into that sort of thing. What I'm looking at is more like the ones linked below. Due to being smaller, there are more mounting options and it should be possible to place them so they end...
  12. Constantly getting flashed for brights

Just the lariat, the other models have halogens in reflector housings (not sure about 2021 models, if they're different). Some of us have upgraded to aftermarket LEDs. I agree the beam patterns are okay on-road, but off-road or dark backroads, it's probably good to have some auxilliary lights...
  13. 2019 Ranger prone to fuel making its.way into oil?

Maybe Toyota subbed out the frame to Apple??
  14. 2019 Ranger prone to fuel making its.way into oil?

It's kinda hard to evaluate reliability of the current model since it has only been out one year, and there are significant differences between it and its cousins that have been sold elsewhere; however, the vehicle that our new Ranger is replacing is a '93 Ranger with ~260,000 miles. Over that...
  15. 2019 Ranger prone to fuel making its.way into oil?

Yeah, the filter is pretty easy. If you have an FX4, another minor nuisance is needing to remove the skid plate so the oil drains cleanly. If you install a Fumoto drain valve in place of the drain plug, you won't need to hassle with that in the future.
  16. 2019 Ranger prone to fuel making its.way into oil?

There are always tradeoffs, so maybe this is the right decision for you. GDI engines will usually accumulate some amount of carbon deposits on the intake valves, and there's no sense in denying that; however, it's a complex issue. The degree depends a lot on how the vehicle is driven, and some...
  17. Constantly getting flashed for brights

I think there's some truth to that. I've backed off quite a bit over the years on flashing and try to tolerate the brighter lighting of newer cars as long as they seem properly aligned, and when I do flash someone in a really bad case, I usually keep it to a quick flash. Some people, though...

That's about the timing we're planning. Your highway fuel economy is similar to what we get with our pop-up camper on (we get around 21-22 going 60 MPH). The pop-up probably has more wind resistance, but it's also a little lighter and we don't have the extra friction of trailer wheels, so I...

Nice! We're heading off to UP in a few weeks to visit out daughter there, going to try to time it for good fall colors. It will be nice to get away from the smoke out here ;) I like the trailer - looks light and not much taller than the truck, I assume it doesn't kill your highway fuel...
  20. Hankook Dynapro ATM discontinued?

Those are the ones we have and we like them as well. Our truck is a Saber XLT FX4, and for some reason the Saber color required the Sport package at the time, so I'm not sure if they were part of the Sport package or the FX4 package.
