Thanks and you're most welcome. I couldn't agree more on the visual aspect.
  2. Old man EMU rear spring install

    Thank you good, sir.
  3. Old man EMU rear spring install

I'm not sure if this is the thread to get into this too deep, but, I did record some drive line measurements. Maybe I'll post in the other thread about the low speed shutter. IDK. Impressions? The truck rides amazing! Is the low speed shutter still there? Yes. It's EXACTLY like before no better...
  4. Old man EMU rear spring install

Sorry about the last crappy photo. It's cold outside! lol
  5. Old man EMU rear spring install

DS. Glad I kept the factory shim in!
  6. Old man EMU rear spring install

I did take some "after" measurements. They are EXACTLY the lift promised by, Old Man EMU. Floor to wheel well and top of center cap to wheel well. PS first. I'll add, from the floor to the very top of the bed is 4' 9" or 57"!

Although there doesn't appear to be a tone of interest in this sort of write-up w/photos. I'm going to finish it off anyway. Mainly because there isn't a ton of info with photos on this site. That and MAYBE It will help one or two thinking about doing this install. The DS went mush better after...
  8. Old man EMU rear spring install

Lastly for today I decided not to grind off the little tit the centers the factory shim on the spring pack. I drilled a hole instead. Came out good enough. IMO. The rest of the DS will have to wait until tomorrow. I'm beat.

    I think this will work.
  10. Old man EMU rear spring install

OME might have dropped the ball here. They do not account for it in this kit. Here's why. The pin is too short and doesn't account for the factory shim. You have a couple of choices. Go without the shim (I chose not to) or make a spacer for the thickness. I was lucky and had an old roll pin...
  11. Old man EMU rear spring install

Correct. But, only when there is a load on everything. When the wheels are on the ground.
  12. Old man EMU rear spring install

On to the DS! Good grief what a shit show! The first photo just shows the factory shim. Which 99% of rangers now have.
  13. Old man EMU rear spring install

Started on the passenger side. Here is where the fun begins. The rear grease able shackles are a PITA. Took over an hour (PS only) to install them, which is crazy. The bushings would just not come together with the bolts in them. They would off the truck. The tolerances are very tight. Lying on...

Removed the bump stop plate from the factory spring. As you can see you just need a couple clamps if you choose to do this step. I ended up torquing the bolt at 65 ft lbs.
  15. Old man EMU rear spring install

Got the springs together just to see the difference in size. Started working on the passenger side.
  16. Old man EMU rear spring install

I'm wondering what you think of ARB re-installing it. I don't care if I lose 1/4 inch of travel. You shouldn't either.
  17. Old man EMU rear spring install

Yup. Right from the factory. I was hoping to get rid of it. No big deal.
  18. Old man EMU rear spring install

It's the bump stop plate. It is worth my time to re use it. If you didn't that's cool.
  19. Old man EMU rear spring install

Side note. I came across this short blip on the ARB site. I thought I could rid the truck of the DS installed shim that came from the factory. Don't think so. The pack would need another 3MM as the shim is 6MM. Damn-it! Oh well, can't win them all. "Certain Old Man Emu coil and leaf springs...

So I made some progress. The truck is up on stands and wheels and shocks are off and undone. Also undid the brake lines. Couple shots of the shim on the DS/PS. Brake line un-hooked to give the axle more room to move.
