  1. New to the Ranger, now what?

Check the rubber hose that holds your radiator fan in the correct position. When I joined this forum, that was one of the first threads I saw, and sure enough, my hose was broken too. Saved me a ton of trouble.
  2. What did you receive in the mail today for your Ranger?

That’s awesome. Some of my First Officers used to complain that I taxied too fast. I told them I went to the Bob Bondurant school of taxiing. You gotta hit that turn apex if you want to be smooth.
  3. Differential and transfer case oil change

I changed all my fluids at the auto hobby shop on the local AFB. I asked the not so bright tool crib guy for a 3/8 torque wrench, and he asks, “What are you torquing it to?” “18 foot pounds,’” I replied. He says, “That’s just hand tight.” I said, ”Yeah I know that, thanks for the tip, now...
  4. What did you receive in the mail today for your Ranger?

Don't feel bad. I put on the wrong ones too. I thought this blue would match the Ford oval blue. But it's more like powder blue. How hard are they to remove?
  5. What Are You Listening To?

My wife and I saw Jeff Beck at Celebrity Theater in Phoenix just two months before he passed. He was always my favorite guitarist. He will be missed, but his music rocks on.
  6. Are you happy with your Ranger poll?

Funny you would say that, because I have an 05 Mustang with the V-6 and and a 5-speed, and I concur with the performance. I think my Ranger is much quicker from 60 to 90 than the Mustang. I love my V-6 for the simple reason that I can drive that car to its limits without exceeding mine. Last...
  7. F-150 Loaner Vehicle

In 1997, the Air Force put me in a brand new F-350 Crew Cab (6-pack) 4x4 diesel with an 8' bed. After driving it a week as Chief of Wing Weapons Safety, the Flight Safety Officer said he wanted it to replace their Chevy S-10. He said it was because they needed the back seat to haul pilots...
  8. Differential and transfer case oil change

ALWAYS remove the fill plug first. If you drain the fluid first, and can’t get the fill plug out for some reason, you’re screwed.
  9. What did you do WITH your Ranger today?

Just finished a 10-day swing up into Utah for fly fishing. It was 1,740 miles, 18.5mpg, 9 nights in the Super Pacific camper, and total trip cost was $835, not including having to replace the upper section of my Sage One fly rod that I stupidly left on top of the camper before I drove back to a...
  10. Where’s your dog?

When I built a simple platform for the back seat (SCAB), I fount that 2x10 blocks were the perfect height to match the seat pan height if you put a strip of 2x2 along the back of the seat pan (bottom seat cushions removed) . It’s just a simple matter to fit a plywood platform with the blocks at...
  11. Trading 22 XLT for 24 XLT v6?

When my $12,000 OTD 1988 Ranger XLT was five years old, I started going to dealerships to look at new ones. The prices keep going up, and the truck quality kept going down. When my truck was 20 years old, the dealers would rave about how nice mine was, so they kind of talked me into keeping it...
  12. Wow....

I‘ve heard cops and fireman have one thing in common, they’ve both taken the fire department entrance exam. :p That’s probably an ancient joke, but my old USAF friend retired from the Las Vegas Metro PD a few years ago, and he took it, twice. He was a great cop, with multiple decorations.
  13. What did you do WITH your Ranger today?

There was a McDonald’s adjacent to my High School in 1975. My favorite lunch there was a fillet-o-fish, fries and a vanilla shake. I could just order the regular. ?
  14. What did you receive in the mail today for your Ranger?

I put one in last year. Great product, but remember the power times out 75 minutes after the engine is shut off. Of course the default time can be changed with forescan.
  15. What did you do WITH your Ranger today?

Just finished a 4-day trip from Tucson to the San Juan River in New Mexico for some trout fishing. Only got one the first day, but on day two, it picked up and I stopped counting after 15. Very big fish in this river, the smallest was 17 inches. First stop was at the Cat Walk Recreation Area...
  16. Dumb question about oil changes?

True that. Nitrogen is such a scam for car tires. It’s necessary for jets because it doesn’t hold much moisture so freezing isn’t a problem, it expands and contracts less with temperature and pressure changes, and it’s expensive. Plus you can only service with nitrogen, or your back to normal...
  17. What did you do WITH your Ranger today?

Back in the 70’s, a friend of mine told his classmate that the junkyard was paying $150 for old manhole covers. So this guy went around and collected about a dozen, and had them in the trunk of his 67 Chevelle. Before he went to the junkyard, they wrote “HA, HA!” on his windshield. So he...
  18. Spotted This One Today.....Black Scab

My brother and I used to ride in the bed with our backs against the front of the wheel wells, with our chins against the bed rails. We pretended we were driving can-am race cars. Amazing we made it to adulthood. Sure was fun though.
  19. What did you do WITH your Ranger today?

Wow! Is that a bass, or is it trying to grow into a grouper?
  20. What did you do WITH your Ranger today?

Took a 3-day trip to fly fish for bass at Martinez Lake on the Colorado River, just north of Yuma. Got 10 good bites that got off. Finally remembered you gotta hit bass hard to set the hook. After that, I got 2 nice ones in the boat. No wind, so perfect conditions to cast from the rented Jon...
