Thanks, this is good info. 8 - 10 years sounds very good to me. Actually, my battery wasn't acting up, I just didn't want to have to replace it on a 7,000 mile trip.
I have a Victron Blue Smart IP65 Charger which can charge at either 15 amp or 4 amp. It has a Reconditioning Mode and they...
So ... I have not read all pages of this thread, but started with airline tech's deep dive. I am not high tech in the battery area, but my take is Ford sets SOC to 75% for better gas mileage, but a setting of 90% is better for battery life and reducing/eliminating annoying accessory shutdowns...
I've always done my own work since my first car at 16, but I paid the $400 to have the dealer do the plugs. Just call me chicken ... I have the 2019, so I think it's less apt to have the seized-plug problem, but the older I get (now 72), I'm more concerned about having some problem arise that's...
I second the Utah recommendation above and South Dakota. Here are some pics from a 7-week southwest trip my wife and I did in spring 2025 (Utah pics are last half of the pics): Zenfolio | Mark S Landman | Southwest 2025
If you're going to South Dakota, The Badlands is one of our favorite...
Thanks. I've bought from RockAuto before and been happy with the service and parts. In this case I want to go with OEM parts. I tow with my Ranger and I've been happy with the stopping and life of the brakes, so I plan to spend the extra money on OEM parts ... maybe doesn't make any difference...
I'm looking online for genuine Ford front rotors and pads for my 2019 Lariat 4WD and two online dealers are giving me different part numbers. When I enter my VIN both sites state they can't be specific and I need to pick which Ranger model, which I am doing. I believe the numbers are the...
Original poster here.
It turns out I had my Victron BMV-712 configured wrong. After re-configuring, I'm now getting 20 amps to the Orion XS and 15+ amps out. Based on this output, I'm going to continue running off the 7-pin charge wire rather than running separate cable with Anderson...
Thanks! Good to know. [
Thanks for the info. I have a Victron Orion XS, which has adjustable output up to 50 amps. My initial goal was to replace the 10 amps my fridge uses. Now thinking I'd like to be able to get 30 amps from time to time.
If I were to use 4 gauge instead of 6 gauge, what's the best inline, waterproof, 4 gauge fuse holder? With the 6 gauge, I planned to use an inline maxi fuse, but I don't see these available in 4 gauge.
Thanks, this is very helpful. I planned on running 6 gauge cable, but started thinking I needed to use 4 gauge. So, you have no trouble charging with 30 amps with the 6 gauge cable?
Thanks for the reply.
The Orion XS states it operates between 9 and 17 volts.
If the "engine running" detection option in the XS doesn't work, could I use the 7-pin charge wire as a signal wire? What do others use for a signal wire (other than a manual switch)?
