The main reasons are clearance and strength. Not having the plate under the axle, allows better clearance and 5 /8" u bolt and 3/8" plate steel is immensely stronger than factory. And I'm a fan of overkill.

Looks like most (if not all) 2019 and 2020 CV axles were not coated. mine have surface rust on them too. I don't think it's a problem. A quick fix could be a quick touchup with Rustoleum flat black paint.
