Thanks for the replies guys. I'll just end up getting new studs to be safe. Like I said I was more curious than anything and thought it might be helpful to do a little experiment.
So now after a cursory search of the googles, I can't seem to find out the length of the stock wheel studs, anyone...
Okay, this has my curiousity peaked. I picked up some 1/4" spacers on here the other week with the intent to add them once I put new tires on next year(was planning on going to a 255/75/17 tire), not interested in bailing on the Dynapros yet as I thought they performed well this past winter...
I have the Bushwacker covers and can say that the install is pretty easy. Peeling the film off the tape was kind of a pita but nothing terrible. This isn't the greatest picture but you can see where the pinch weld is hidden. The covers are tapped directly to the pinch welds. They have held up...
I applied mine pretty much the same as Cpt. Hawaiian. The back one was very easy to mask off if you do the whole thing chrome and all. There is just enough room to slide a piece of tape between the chrome and the tailgate.
Very cool Wasatch, this is my plan as well. I'm planning on starting my build this summer but am only going with the topper section. Unfortunately a wedge tent isn't big enough for our family of humans and critters. I'll end up incorporating a rack for the roof with some aluminum extrusion to...
This is normal, the wet snow probably offered enough traction or you were down to pavement. It's lurching and bucking because the front tires are trying to turn at the same speed because of the axle being locked together when in 4x4 instead of one tires spinning a bit faster than the other. Its...
I had a chance to throw something together. I should have taken a few more pictures. I don't like using the turnbuckles to lock the lid but it's what I had and it pulls it tight. I'll figure a locking cam latch or something when it warms back up on the other side of winter.
Costs:
Plywood...
They're supposed to be announcing a topper version without the tent at some point soon as well. I've been looking at the RSI Smartcap but the GFC on the Tacoma looks nice, waiting to see pricing.
Wow, I've been inspired. This looks great Joe. After looking over your design and noticing the pile of scrap lumber and plywood laying around my shop I may tackle this as well. I have my eye on a fancy topper but like you need to save my pennies ( many of them apparently) and am somewhat handy...
Yeah, I'll reiterate what FoD said about the Fia covers, they have straps running under the seat that are kind of a pain to adjust and tighten but they certainly aren't going anywhere. I adjusted mine a few times after I installed them but haven't needed to mess with them for the past 3...
Got the rokbloks installed yesterday. The gray logo color matches the iconic silver pretty well. Glad I went with just the regular for the stock setup. Easy install just follow the instructions.
These are the regular ones, I won't be swapping wheels or tires till the Dynapros wear out and figured the regular size would be fine.
Will do, the instructions look well thought out so it shouldn't be too troublesome. I'll throw these on while I'm changing the oil for the first time tomorrow...
I'll throw my 2 cents in here as well as I haven't seen anyone mention small fiberglass travel trailers. We have a 1986 17 foot Burro trailer. If I was shopping for a new small trailer I would look at Oliver, Bigfoot, Casita, or Escape. They are all light and have the technology options as any...
