Apologies if I'm telling you something you already know but to make the twisted pair wires for the canbus network wires mount the two wires in a vise and the other end in a drill and slowly spin the wires with the drill. It might take a time or two of twisting for the wires to develop a memory...

Yes, the barrier is held on with a sticky rope - sometimes called thumb grade sealer. If you're careful it will come off. It's 85 here today in Central NY State so I bet being a little softer made it easier to come off.
