Greetings All,
Dropping another one of my write-ups on the infamous bucking/surging epidemic our Rangers seem to have.
Check out the "Bucking/Surging Epidemic" thread started by @Tim Vogt Sr. for every piece of information you could want...
Glad it could help; makes writing these worth it! I don’t think 2 magnets will hurt at all. I did buy spares last year so I’ll have them readily available when I hit 100k miles.
Placed an order this morning for the infamous DPFE sensor and it shipped this afternoon. That’s why I’ll keep buying from Levittown. ? I’ll have to ask for a promo code next time..
If you’re itching to wrench, now wouldn’t be a bad time.
Might as well add the DPFE sensor (the primary cause of our truck surging/bucking(there’s a 42 page thread on it)) to your project list if you haven’t already. Mine is on the way and another write-up to follow.
@airline tech...
So yours (I guess several on the forums too) does the same thing?
If that’s the case not even worth disassembling because they claimed they checked it at the dealership Saturday.
Earplugs, LOL. ?
But seriously though, my service advisor mentioned recently there was a guy with a 2020 F-150 with the same exact issue and they replaced pads, rotors, and re-lubricated and it still squeaks at crawling speeds.
My pads still have 7-8mm of material and the rotors are fine so...
100% agree.
I noticed my cylinder two COP connector had red tape around it (you can see it on the pictures) and that helped me not mix up cylinder two / three.
I used a feeler gauge instead of a classic gap tool; probably should add that in there. I just wanted to be 100% sure they were...
Rumor has it NGK makes some Motorcraft plugs, I have a feeling these are since it’s stamped “Japan”.
NGK advises against anti-seize.
I’ll know in 60,000 miles if I should have. ?
I drove 20 minutes round trip and it probably sat in the garage with the hood open for 20-30 minutes. The plugs were warm to the touch (not scalding or anything) so I think I got it just right.
Probably 10 minutes max if you just idle or drive around the neighborhood?
I literally just posted a write-up on this procedure. Great minds think alike. :like:
I avoided anti-seize on the new SP-594 plugs and only applied a pea size drop of Dielectric grease in the coil boot.
Cylinder 4 you have to insert at 6:00 position while pushing down and rotate it...
Greetings all,
Thought I would do another one of my write-ups on a fairly simple, yet important maintenance task on your Ranger. (This guide is geared towards those of us who have never performed this procedure)
The Ford Scheduled Maintenance is "Every 100,000 mi (160,000 km) Replace Spark...
Hate to hear that, my Lariat is a 06/19 build date with 60k miles and has been relatively problem free.
The only "issues" I've had are the squeaky brake "feature" going 0-8 mph, and some surging.
1st year model woes I reckon?
I’ll eventually order one piece as well. Morbid curiosity has my attention to see if there’s a certain mileage where mine all measure out.
I replaced just that one for now since the rest take a 19mm socket with no problem.
I’m curious how the tech got that socket back on earlier…cause I know...
Closing in on 60,000 miles on my 2019 Ranger Lariat with 18 inch wheels and finally ran into the legendary swollen wheel nut while attempting to verify torque from my dealer oil change/tire rotation this morning.
Supplies / Parts Needed :
New M12x1.5 Wheel Nut...
I second what Shawn said.
It’s up to you if you want to reuse or buy new plugs. I am a Quality Engineer by trade so I replaced the hardware since it has material on the threads. I would say the risk would be a very slightly higher chance of fluid leak than if you used new hardware.
Gear oil is...
