Thanks, looked it up in my manual & it's on page 149. I was looking in the towing section, my bad, should have looked in the transmission section, go figure. It would be nice to have it in the towing section, where I would normally look for towing info.
Will give it a try next time I tow. Was...
"I understand why but some of you guys are really paranoid about warranty issues but it's just a catch can, it literally does nothing but catch oil. If it was put on wrong it would throw a code and even then it could not cause this issue. You also have to understand, this isn't like an insurance...
Got the truck used, where the ^&*$ is tow-haul mode switch, light, lever, actuator, or knob? I've looked in the manual & there's no mention of it. It goes into detail about towing limits, elevations, hitch, chains, etc. Can you tell me where it is in the cab or manual?
I just use sport mode for towing, easy to use & let the transmission do its job. Once the trailer is hooked up & sees the harness, it adapts to the longer length on the side sensors. It seems to do a pretty good job with the extra length in the lane, shifts are a bit better & it keeps the rpms...
Took the truck up into southern Colorado this past weekend & had the teardrop trailer attached. The trailer weighs in at 1700#, the truck had the Leer 100 shell, a cooler & some odds & ends in the bed as well. The hardest pull was over Raton pass as I was leaving town, from 6,500' up & over...
Went up to Colorado for an elk hunt with my son this weekend. Didn't get an elk, but had a nice visit, hunt & got in a bit of exercise for me & the truck. The "road" was a narrow switchback climb up into a high area with lots of rocks, tight bends & inclines in 4X4 low.
The truck did better...
I did 34 psi cold all around & like the ride. Door sticker says 30 psi (factory 17" rims & XLT), but it feels a bit soft & mushy that way. I did chalk the tires & drive it in a lot for about 100' after adding pressure & it looks to be about right this way. Soft tires are OK if you like a mushy...
Toyota will have to play catch-up now, but I'm wondering what they'll do & how they'll do it. Maybe buy a Ranger, strip it & then reverse-engineer the system? New 10 speed automatic also?
Mercedes continues to bring its race technology to cars in general. Take a look at their version of the 4 cylinder motor. https://www.carsdirect.com/automotive-news/new-mercedes-benz-4-cylinder-engine-packs-up-to-416-hp
I put the brake controller (Tekonsha 90160 Primus) in the tongue box of the trailer. It's hard-wired into the trailer & uses the trailer's 12v power supply (group 27 AGM battery) for braking. Works very well, but hadn't thought about the trailer brakes & 4-way flashers, hmmm.
Josh, nice job on the video & lift. You are aware of the risk vs. reward & have assumed responsibility for the mods, so it's all good. The only way to find out is to do it!
From Raton, NM now, a nice small town at 6,500' & 6,000 people (cheap real estate too). We moved from Tucson, Az. and are glad to be out of the heat, gangs, border problems & breathing some cleaner air.
A couple of hobbies. The Red Rocket with 212cc HF motor, modded a little...
Knife-making a little, spring steel chopper
Some shooting as well, rifle for my son, 6.5X55 Swede
If it's a 1/2" grade 5 type of bolt (close to a 12mm grade 8.8 bolt?), it's rated at 14,000# in single shear. Two bolts, which could be considered an uneven pull with most of the force on just one hook, would be about 28,000# when they shear. Running a solid chain to one hook would be the worst...
I'm wondering how much weight it took to sag the suspension. Do you have a guess about the amount of "extra weight" you added on the truck to drop it down prior to airbag installation?
Just put a small solar panel on the roof & charge the camper anytime it's daylight outside. That's what we do in the teardrop (100 watt panel & 100 AH AGM battery) which works pretty well for us. No charging circuit from the tow vehicle & we always have power.
I was trying to find a super cab here in northern New Mexico & ended up with a dealer in Dalhart, Texas.
Biggest problem was the lead time quote of from 8-12 weeks for delivery. Wanted the longer bed, XL, 4X4, tow package & cruise only. It was impossible to find locally & they were very rare...
