It's based on but NOT the same 2.3 engine used in the Mustang or RS so thus the question of if it's only Ranger specific. It certainly could be. BTW the mustang and RS are not the same either, I know the heads are different. Those other engines have been around for awhile so there should be a...
Injector leaking is not caused by oil. It maybe my problem, but is it a problem only in the Ranger? How do I know? The oil smells like gasoline and has an obvious loss of viscosity compared to other EB engines. I've been working on engines for over 40 years (changing oil on EB since 2015) so...
Neither of those 2 articles has anything on oil type affecting fuel dilution. Oil and gasoline are 100% miscible so the issue isn't the oils ability to resist mixing with gasoline (it can't), it's fuel getting into the oil in the first place. My question is it just the Ranger 2.3 or do other...
For those looking to do this see this thread for more examples of rear seat delete options: https://www.ranger5g.com/forum/threads/supercab-seat-delete-need-advice-on-sound-proofing.7976/
I've been using the same oil for years, Mobil 1. In the Escapes it's been OEM motorcraft semi-synthetic. I don't see how oil type results in gas accumulation in oil but it's not that. If the Ranger has an oil separator why do they sell kits to add them?
To break it in properly you have to put your foot to the floor! This has changed from the old days, and it's much better. I've done it on a dozen cars so far and 2x as many motorcycles. Metal in the oil is not unusual, my Fiesta ST looked like metal flake paint after the first 100 miles (which...
I've changed oil 2x in my Ranger and a bunch of times for two 1.6 EB (Focus ST and Escape) and a 1.5 EB (Escape) and only the Ranger has oil dilution issues. All are DI so why only the Ranger? I was hoping to go 5K between oil changes but I'm sticking with 4K it's that bad. Do the other 2.3L...
I called my local dealer for the Ford Fox kit and they won't be available until 8/15 as they were upgraded, new part # is M-18000-RA. Does anyone by chance have this and know what's been upgraded? Any deals around on the old version M-18000-R?
Thx Phil. So we still don't know about the Ford perf vs Fox 2.0 springs. Someone needs to measure the wire diameter or verify the rates (someone has but is that verified). It makes sense for the Ford springs to be made of the same wire, they just lowered the rate with more coils?
Joem, PM...
Thanks Phil. To clarify the Ford Racing Fox spring is 14% stiffer than the aftermarket Fox spring? Do we know how these compare to the stock spring?
There are a few of us that want better front suspension but less than a 2" lift so we are trying to figure out which kit is the best at a lower...
That's not right and neither was my previous answer. If you crank down a longer spring so it's the same length as a short spring you'll have way more preload and the rate will increase according to the formula (1" 250#, 2" 500#, etc) and you'll have way more shock extension, but that's not the...
The preload would have to be the same for any spring to sit at the same height (has to support the weight of the truck). Beyond that the "rate" is rate of increase as you compress the spring. I don't believe either of the Fox kits would have a softer rate than stock when set to the same...
I think it's the opposite. A longer spring will have a softer ride. The question I have is some of us want a better suspension with no or at most a 1" lift, so which kit is better? It's just preload on the spring that sets the ride height.
Here's my version. You are a better carpenter than I am so this cost $47 more for the top trim piece which snapped right in. This required 3 countersunk sheet metal screws into the seat back bracket to attach the plywood There's no wires or anything behind it and there's no harm to the truck...
Tracing looks like a PITA. Looks like you may have cut around the ears for the top trim, I was going to cut them off so the plywood would sit flush against the trim. Double sided tape would keep the trim from vibrating. And it's covered by the rear seat back so you wouldn't be able to see it...

That looks nice, can't wait to see what is looks like installed. For the bottom are you going to slot where the seat u-bolts protrude and use a wedge? I was thinking of slotting the plywood so there are fingers to slide into those. Not sure what's best, that can wait though. I just...
I plan to carpet the back wall so it looks nice and I'll figure out the top gap when I get to it. It may involve trimming some trim to do it right. As far as sound I don't think it's all that much as is, even with the seats removed. If it is I'll use carpet on the backside, or maybe a blanket...
Haven't been here in awhile and I'm literally doing to same thing. About to head out for supplies. How are you attaching the plywood? I was thinking some sheet metal screws would be needed. For the gap I was going to find some thick foam to trim. Not the spray kind although you could use...
