I do have a 501a Lariat, which is why I was surprised your configuration didn't work. According to the F-150 sheet, these are the differences in the values. I used 8 because it changed my original value of 0 from MMI Disabled to Enabled without changing anything else.

Can confirm, experienced the same loss of the climate button and this fixed it! Also did 7D-02-01 5553 xxxx xxxx instead of 5753 xxxx xxxx and it retains the US style radio and signage.
