First, be aware that the part that is flaking is not leather. It is the infamous "Pleather" grown in a lab.....basically vinyl.
The only leather on the seat is the center panels of the seat and upright backrest. Only other leather is the steering wheel cover and the gearshift trim.....that's...
If by hitch stabilizer you mean that simple U-bolt/plate that locks the hitch shank to the hitch platform, than yes, I would definitely try that....it will lock the shank/head to the hitch....even that small gap can set up a vibration at different speeds or even different road surfaces...
Clue is your statements that there is a minor shudder when towing your rig with your buddy's Toyo, and that you have no shudder when towing a different trailer than yours.
I would look at the trailers suspension for anything that is loose/not tightened down, or possibly a fault with the trailers...
There are many variables to consider when comparing....those temps I posted are from stop and go traffic, not heavy but enough to cause temps to rise. If that same 20 miles were on the interstate I doubt if temps would get higher than around 195 or so.
Hot here for this time in...
I don't detail like I used to, and haven't used this for a few years now....

I just got back from a quick run into town and back...maybe 20 miles. Outside temps are around 92-95.
Temps are the norm for solo (not towing) in hot weather.....
When towing our travel trailer it's hit 210-220 for trans and 205-215 coolant on hot days running up grades...especially long ones...
Obviously you have over 1,000,000 miles on your Ranger or it would still be good !!!
I'd give K&N a call and see if they will stand behind their claims of good for 1,000,000 miles
Almost $70 grand in US bucks.....I'll keep my paid off 2021 Lariat ALL GAS !!!
And......
It's only made to drive on the wrong side of the road !!!
Digging thru my memory....I used those also. Looked like a big hook that fit under the bumper. My first car, a 1960 Chevy Biscayne had that type....so did my 64 Falcon Sprint.
Using one, you could sneeze at the car up on it and it was a 50-50 chance it would topple over !!!!
Personally I wouldn't use a scissors jack at all....just too unstable. And, I grew up using a bumper jack....the kind that had a piece that fit into a slot on the bumper....talk about unstable !!!!!
I use a bottle jack with a capacity of twice what the truck weighs, along with a one foot square...
When towing, if I'm lucky, downhill with the wind behind me, .....150 or so and the "50 miles to empty" light comes on....so maybe 10-11 mpg.
Solo...I don't pay attention....just get gas when it hits 1/4 tank or my Martins Points build up toward the end of month.
Only reason I pay attention when...
Whats funny is after towing our travel trailer, and fill up, it will read around 200 miles or so till empty.
After we go home and I start driving solo (no trailer) it will take a few tankful's till a full tank reads 280 or 300 miles till empty
Basically their nothing but cracker boxes on wheels. Throw in propane tanks and propane running thru the lines, usually to the fridg while on the road and you have a roman candle when there's an accident.
Even top of the line million dollar motorhomes will suffer the same outcome.

Been up and down Fancy Gap and Saluda Grade in South/North Caroline a number of times.
Just use tow mode, drop the trans to 4th or 5th gear, and scoot right along....towing 7000 lb trailer !!!
No problems, no overheating....
You may laugh....but back in them "olden days" thats just what they did....threw burnt coffee beans into a coffee pot of boiling water and let it boil for however long they thought was good.
Old Enough !!!!! HA !!! I started making my coffee in something similar to this.... .....
But yes, I do remember Brim and all the other excuses for coffee they came up with.....
(Ex Navy.....black and if the spoon dosen't stand up in it, it's not strong enough !!!!!)
