Seems like any time you read comments on an article, people are complaining about price being too high. One thing to take into consideration is the devaluation of the dollar compared to the one you have now. My 2006 is very similar to the version I have on order now though not as well equipped. It was $21,595.00 which works out to about $28,000.00 in todays dollars. The 1st one I bought was in 84 and was $9,995.00. This 2006 I bought used for $7000.00 just because of the price. I for one think that the pricing is not that far out of line, for what you are getting. Just my thoughts....Your mileage may vary.

When pricing was released, it was pretty much in line with what I was expecting based on competitors' pricing. However, I do get a little bit of shock when thinking about the increase in price relative to my current Ranger. I bought my 2003 brand new for $8000, and I'm looking at spending nearly 4x as much on a new ranger. BUT, some serious context is needed here. In 2003, I bought the absolute base model and it came with a dealer discount and $4k in factory incentives. If I recall correctly, the MSRP was $13,620. Adjusting for inflation, that would be $18,700 today for a truck that is pretty inferior to even the base model of the new Ranger.

Since I already had the numbers I figured it would be interesting to see how the new Ranger stacked up against the previous version. It is kinda interesting.

Where did the mpg numbers come from for the 2019? Speculation?

My 2003 Supercab FX4 with auto trans and towing package was a little over $25,000. Seems like the 2019 will be around $10,000 more similarly equipped. I guess all things considered it's not a bad deal, considering the safety enhancements, more powerful engine, and far superior transmission.

EPA numbers are speculation. The numbers are slightly based on the 2.3L EB in a few other vehicles as well as multiple instances of Ford spokespersons stating that Ford wants to be on par or ahead of the competition. The data will get updated once the numbers have been released.

The sticker price of my 2003 Dodge Dakota regular cab V8 4x2 with infinity sound system and power windows and locks was $28k. 16 years later with inflation and how much standard equipment that even a Rolls Royce back then wouldn't dream of having, getting a Ranger in the $30-40k range well loaded seems like a real value.
