I asked about shock boots and was told they trap heat and shouldn't be used on the shocks. But I don't have data to back that up.. just from the company itself.

Interesting. I have Ohlins coilovers on my S2000, which gets used on a track and they came with boots. Those are much less susceptible to rocks and debris than the Fox shocks on a truck, but much more susceptible to a lot of heat. Maybe in the case of going off-roading all the time that would be true, but I'd like to protect my shocks from the elements.

The heat generated from friction is more of the issue than environmental heat. The shaft temperature will get pretty high with no airflow around it with significant shaft speed off road. My icons mount body down shaft up which I prefer over the exposed shaft that will get pitted from rocks and what not.
