Nice thread. Thanks. I'm a petroleum transfer specialist myself (oil changer) and wondering that once I get it up on the lift will the oil filter be more accessible, Guess not I see.
I have a quick lane within walking distance from where I work and was planning on using up the points on the first 3 services just to get the records in the system.
Just a thought, has anyone requested full synthetic other than blend at one of these places? Were the points the same regardless?
My opinion is that the oil filter is easily accessible without removing the tire. Other than not having to remove the 3 plastic "screws" to fold that inner flap down, I'm not sure how it could be more easily accessible.

I would go full synthetic I don’t see a reason why they wouldn’t do that, and if you have to pay the difference so be it..A transfer Specialist.. the problem I see is the Specialist tell that to the guys that pay you I Run a fuel Truck myself but I don’t see the Specialist Part.. But I do I ok no complaints..

Search for the thread on rear differential oil change, and look if yours has drain plug . Black with metal sludge on magnet @ 3K change. Of course I changed it and engine myself, use on highway towing, Fl.

So I looked up the difference between the two on motor craft web site the 910 had a higher pressure rating which is better so the filter doesn’t bypass as much oil as the 400.. learned something new today for the first time never thought there was a pressure difference..
I did a lot of comparing oil filter specs when I had a Focus ST. The bypass pressure varies between manufacturers for the same application filter. The Motocraft FL910S could be higher than the FL-400S but may be exactly the opposite from Wix.

Also, having a higher bypass pressure is not necessarily better. Higher bypass pressures also means more potential restriction to oil flow. What would you rather have? The engine being starved for oil or the filter bypassing and allowing full oil flow. All other things being equal the FL400S should less likely bypass because it has more filter media surface area.

In the big scheme of things the only time the oil filter should be bypassing is on initial startup on a cold morning if you are changing your oil and filter on prescribed intervals. I wouldn't worry about the bypass rating, every filter I ever looked up were within single digits of being the same.

A little tidbit; The FL910S spec filters first application was in 1982 on the then new 2.2 Mopar 4cyl. I had a 03 PT Cruiser with the 2.4 turbo. The non turbo 2.4 spec'd the FL910S filter and the turbo version spec'd the FL400S.

I have mine changed at our local Ford dealership, I supply my oil (Mobil 1) and use the Motorcraft filter they supply. They adjust the price for me suppling my own oil.

Its that time, 10,000 Mile service.
First things first I put this big boy up on the lift and inspected everything for damage/wear and tear. I didnt find anything alarming so I got started with the service.

Pulled the plug and watched the nasty black oil drain out, I was not surprised to see it get on the crossmember.

After draining the oil I found that Ford decided to locate the filter in what seemed to be the dumbest area possible.

Upon further inspection I found that in the wheel arch there is a rubber mud guard that can be easily removed to make room for my oil filter wrench, needless to say it was much less terrible than I initially thought.

Once again it seemed that a mess was going to be made, thankfully they thought ahead once again. Under the filter is a channel that helps the oil flow out of the back of the engine compartment which keeps the oil from going everywhere. After I replaced the filter I hosed the area down with some brake parts cleaner to rinse the residual oil out and we were back in business.

My parts supplier recommended an FL-910S instead of the FL-400S, from what Ive read either work fine.

Nice group of photos, well done and thank you. I'm a veteran of spine Surgery, 7 to date! I have done 2 oil changes on my Ranger and I pay for it for a couple of days. So these days I use my local dealer. I supply my own oil and they adjust the price accordingly. It was hard for me to do this, I have done my own changes and other services for many years and I am picky. Happy to see you doing your own. Keep it up, cheers....
