Here in the Bay Area you need a FasTrak to use the express lanes on 101/880 and a few others.
Yeah. The traffic out here is trash and only getting worse. So far it's still the one highway here, though I-405 between I-605 and SR-73 is supposedly getting the Fast Trak upgrade as part of the Orange County improvements to help with traffic flow. But that's not slated to be done until 2023. http://www.octa.net/Projects-and-Pr...mprovement-Project/?frm=7135#!405ExpressLanes

We had similar big plastic chunks for toll tags here in the Dallas area years ago. They have since been upgraded to a flat adhesive decal. Most people place them on the windshield behind the rear view mirror. If you get it right, you never see it in your driving view.

The transponder is a small “bump” in the center of the decal. They are destroyed if you have to remove it, but they will send new ones out fairly quick.

You should see the Sun Pass tags we use in Florida! Size of a Credit Card and Sticks permanently to the windshield. Only $5.00 and you get a $5.00 Credit to your account. They are disposable items since you ruin the internal antenna if you remove it. Talk about inconspicuous. Only downside is you can't hide them behind the Dotted area as it needs power from the Toll Reader to respond.
FYI, SunPass is also available in a shape similar to the CA shown. It has suction cups and is transferable to other vehicles in your house, if they are registered with SunPass.

The new ones in CA are smaller than a credit card, clear'ish with an RFID like exposed circuit. Just peel and stick in lower R or L of window. Setup your account and auto-deduct. So much better. I think License plate reader is the back up.
