Had the FX4 for about 2 months now and couldn't be happier. Ski season is getting closer and I'm trying to figure out a good rack or cover combo where I can easily store my skis because the ~5 foot bed isn't going to work too well for that.

Looks like you took a trip up HWY 18. Good spot for a photo.:D

Looking forward to see what the other ski bums are doing too.

Yep! :D That was the first weekend I had the truck and went up for the Fox US Open at Big Bear. Second pic is a couple weeks ago in Big Sur. We just got back from Yosemite and Mammoth and had the skis laid in diagonally, but would like a better solution for sure.

Congrats on the sweet truck! Coming from my ‘01 Ranger with the 6’ bed, the shorter bed took some time for me to figure out as well. I’m using mine to cart mountain bikes around instead of skis though. I too couldn’t be happier with my FX4!

I decided to get a shell on it and I figured out how to fit a couple of bikes with longer wheelbases inside the bed. It’s nice to be able to lock them up for extra security during post-ride pub visits, or while I’m working if I’m planning to hit the trails when I’m off. The shell also has rails so I can add any rack system to the top later. Loving this setup!

Thanks! Yeah the last pickup I had was a 99 F-150 with the Offroad package...think that eventually became the FX4 package in 2002. The bed was a great size, but we wanted something a little smaller for the city. That's interesting about the bikes...might look into that. Right now I have a Kuat rack that I use with the hitch when hauling the bikes, but it would be nice to throw them in the bed and really lock them up. Been looking at shells, too. Did you get an A.R.E?

I also use a hitch mounted rack for rides where I’m not planning to stop anywhere, but I’ve found that a couple of mtbs stood up with the front wheels removed and the forks mounted on a solid footing will fit diagonally in the bed.

I got the Leer 180 shell for the extra 4” of height. That extra height lets my XL bike fit inside and clear the bar and saddle with the dropper down. I got the optional cargo net mounted on the headliner which is pretty perfect for stashing riding gear too

I plan to ride tomorrow after work, so I’ll try to remember to snap a photo of one bike inside the bed for you

Just was researching and Thule makes a hitch mounted rack but it is spendy.

why you guys look so small??
Both trucks have a 6” lift. Maybe that could be it. I’m 5’9”. My buddy’s wife took the pics using panoramic on her IPhone. It does look funny.

I will be using the Yakima FatCat Evo 6 on my Overhaul HD! Wanted plenty of space for skis and board without loosing bed space!
